Will be leaving downtown Houston around noon on Saturday on the way back to Baton Rouge. Looking for good Texas bbq that is not too far off that route.

only two places I’ve been in Houston are corkscrew in spring, TX (very good, very crowded, very cool little town) and Rudy’s (a chain, but it’s 10x better than anything you can easily get here)

Truth, Pit Room, Pinkertons
all good, that is how I rank them but most people would put pinkertons over pit room.
All of them are the other way out of town, but not far from downtown. Truth and Pinkertons will be easier to get back on to 10

Truth, Pinkertons, and Pit room are close to downtown. J bar M was good early on. Haven't been since their pitmaster left.

Pit Room is sort of on the backside of where you're going, but not really all that out of the way. I like it.

Truth is the best BBQ in Houston. Hands down.

It's just ok now...the menu expansion, the seated dinner experience now...it's all just fricking weird.
Sad...was a great place to take my kids on a nice evening when Willow was still there.

Last time I went to Truth on a Sat at 11 am the wait was an hour and a half. Keep that in mind most of the places listed will be packed.

If you leave a little earlier 1701 BBQ in Beaumont is legit

Pinkertons in the Heights will not disappoint.

Truth has better Turkey, sausage, and sides. Pinkertons has better pork ribs. Brisket is comparable. You won’t wait in like at pinkertons like truth.

Grab a ranch water at Pinkertons before you jump in line

"Downtown" can go a long way in Houston but all the aforementioned joints are pretty accessible.
The advice about lines should be heeded especially on a Saturday.
IMO, Truth, Pit Room, Pinkerton's, and Roegels (Voss Rd) are in the same group. Won't go wrong at any of them.
Pro-tip for I-10: take a cooler and stop at Rabideaux's (Exit 44) for andouille, smoked sausage, and tasso or any of the specialty food stores in Scott (Exit 97). My favorites are Billy's and Kartchners for smoked boudin.

Their pork ribs were probably my favorite I’ve ever had. However, I prefer the brisket from Feges.
That’s how I judge BBQ joints, because those two items are just my favorites to chow amongst smoked meats.

Glazed pork ribs from Pinkerton's is my go-to in the city.
If I'm in the suburbs, to go to is corkscrew for ribs
Another great option for ribs in the city is the peanut Asian style ribs that are on special at blood Brothers on Fridays

I'm a Roegel's on Voss man for ribs.
Everyone else mentioned is splitting hairs and depends what side of town you're in. You can't go wrong, we're definitely spoiled here.
