I’ll still go. Just saying it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing trip down Florida Blvd

The standards in BBQ has surpassed Podnah's reign.

Smokin' Aces is pretty solid.
Couyan's has the best brisket, but worst sauce.
There is no real "best" BBQ. It's all kinda mediocre.
I never seem to be able to catch Barbosa.

Barbosa's pop-ups are the best brisket.
Smokin' Aces is really good BBQ but the sides are lacking.
BRQ has some good non-BBQ items but their BBQ is crap, and it's all overpriced.
Pimanyoli's used to be good... haven't been out there in years though.
This is pretty much a spot on review of the BR BBQ scene.
ETA: Smokin' Aces has never really blown me away, but its probably the best in BR. I've had better BBQ cooked by friends/family though.
Blows my mind that there isn't anywhere better in BR. BBQ isn't that hard to make, its just time consuming if you want to make it really good. I guess you just have to be good at forecasting exactly how much of everything you will need at various points in the day and you have to know exactly how long everything takes. I guess its a tough task to end up with a consistently good product without ending up with alot of extra food or not enough food.

City Pork Deli (Overpass) is my vote.
City Pork is delicious but I wouldn't consider it BBQ

Pimanyoli's
Anyone else feel they would be more successful if they were in a more visible busier part of town?

Smokin Aces sauce is extremely underwhelming.

Big Jake's in St. Gabriel is pretty solid. Don't go expecting great sides, though. They're the standard Sysco type stuff.
Only open 11-2 M-F. If you go on Thursday, you'd better be early. That's Hoss Cartwright smoked pork chop day where he serves 1.5/2" thick smoked pork chops. There will be a line by 11:05.
Get on Nicholson and drive toward Gonzales. Turn left on Hwy. 74. Quarter mile off of Nicholson/Hwy 30 on the right.
Must like electric blues/rock and roll and smelling like smoke when you leave.

Couyon's and Smoking Aces are the only places I go in BR.
BRQ is the worst.

Barbosas for sure. Really good dude with a passion for food.

Barbosa's pop-ups.
Best I've had.
As for brick and mortar places, Smokin' Aces. It's nothing special generally speaking but they do a few things very well IMHO.
Bottom line is this is an area that is greatly lacking. Hopefully Barbossa gets something of his own up and running at some point. Dat brisket is fiyo

They serve the full range of BBQ now.
From the menu. Choice of Meats: pulled pork, brisket, baby back ribs, smoked chicken, cajun sausage.
eta: Fridays they sometimes have AYCE offerings. Wings this Friday.

While I think Smokin' Aces has a good taste, I believe the leg quarter I got came from a cornish hen. It was very small, and leg quarters are cheap.

Have you ever done this?
I'm interested but I saw it is at the short order location and I'm wondering the setup. Not really looking to stand around in 95 degree heat and try to eat wings.

Just the Overpass one.
Haven't been for wings, but I've gone for the unlimited Couchon de lait a couple of times. It gets crowded so you have to get there early.
