What if it is gross, and it’s just normalized in certain cultures based on “societal norms”? I’d argue that eating anything whole, eyeballs and other organs intact, is disgusting and inferior to eating select parts even though certain cultures do it with bugs, certain shellfish, etc.
And since we’re talking about psychology/evolutionary biology, we’ve evolved to be grossed out by bugs. It is what it is. It’s not a cultural thing as much as an evolutionary thing, bugs combine a bunch of traits that we’re hardwired to fear.

I know they eat crickets roasted over an open flame in parts of Asia. Supposed to be high in protein. So I'd probably try one if I ever found myself in Vietnam or Bangkok maybe.
With that said, I'm not keen on cricket flour. Idk why, but that just seems way more gross.

See, this is complete nonsense:
We didn’t “evolve to be grossed out by bugs”
That’s Karl Pilkington level thinking.
Now, we are naturally repulsed by most rot and decay (of which bugs are a necessary part of the process)
And sure some people are squeamish around certain bugs, but that doesn’t mean we’ve “evolved” to be grossed out by them.

Yes but no. Tried EXO energy bars made with cricket flour. They were good, but I found that I have an intolerance to so much chitin (despite no problems with shrimp, soft shell crab, etc). The bars made my face explode into tiny, painful pustules all around my mouth and nose. It was an experience that I don't care to repeat.

They might as well be. Arthropods are their ancestors. They eat decaying material. Their whole life cycle is similar to a bugs. From the onset, they're pretty disgusting until you get "looped" into the culture down here.
Crawfish are about as close to a mainstream bug that we eat here in the south.

Hmm. I stand corrected. I knew crustaceans were in the arthropod phylum (class, whatever) but when I think bugs, I think insects. And one of the defining requirements to be classified as insect is 3 body segments and crawfish have two.
