I always find it amazing how insects are a large part of the diet in many countries outside the US, but not in the US itself for the most part. Hell in Mexico they even eat stinkbugs.

Had some brownies that a friend made with cricket flower once. Couldn't tell the difference honestly.

First time I've ever eaten a brownie that came with a shellfish advisory.

Crawfish are about as close to a mainstream bug that we eat here in the south.

I mean oysters are basically rock encased loogies but we happily slurp those down

It’s all in one’s head,I have an aversion to eating certain things even though it makes no rational sense.I eat crawfish(and dust them) but I wouldn’t eat crickets.I eat turtle, frog legs and alligator but I could never make myself eat rattlesnake.Same way with beef, venison and horse,I wouldn’t eat horse even though there is no big difference with a cow. They both live in a pasture and eat grass.
Chickens and pigs are really nasty creatures but I have no problem eating them.
At my age it’s not likely I’ll change my mindset.

Too late in all likelihood

The FDA allows a certain amount of bugs (rat droppings too) in the foods we eat
I've heard that argument, and it's the dumbest yet.

So, because of trace amounts the FDA allows, I need to eat a bowl of crickets? Yeah, no.

I'm not eating bugs. I'll eat shite I catch in the Vermillion River before eating bugs. Long before.

I didn’t say that. I was just trying to a smart arse

My point is you already have. You won’t willingly buy bug foods

The average American eats up to 2 lbs of flies, maggots and other bugs a year in their food. It is crazy how high the threshold is for allowable rodent crap and insect parts are by the FDA.

To this day, I always put flour and corn meal in the freezer because my grandmother did the same to keep bugs from hatching

I've never had crickets, but know several who've had them fried and claim they are quite good.

Cricket flour could be the next great keto carb substitute. But, I'll stick to regular flour in the meantime.

No, I read it perfectly. You said you heard they were good. I said go knock yourself out, as in YOU go eat them.

I never implied I was interested in trying them.

And, the "But, I'll stick to regular flour in the meantime" comment kind of supports my aversion to the idea.

So... I tried cricket for the first time today. Istrouma Brewery has a stout that the put a toasted cricket in. Not bad, a little nutty and crunchy.
