Hmmm... one thing I'll note is that all of those are relatively easy to obtain.

Nothing too out there on the list and nothing that I have never tried. Usually when i see lists like this there are beers from small breweries all over that I didn't even know existed.

Curious if that is somehow a necessary part of the criteria here.

Yeah, if you're willing to trade.

If that's the case, isn't any beer easy to obtain?

Guess I need to start trading. I haven't had any of the good Northeastern breweries (alchemist, tree house, Lawson's, hill farmstead, trillium, etc.) yet. I know I can't find them to buy anywhere online.

No, at least not in a relative sense.

Go look at BeerAdvocate's top beers and there are plenty that aren't as easy to trade for. Beer like Pliny the Younger, Double Barrel Hunahpu, Bourbon Barrel Vanilla Bean Dark Lord, Barrel Aged Abraxus, Rare Bourbon County Stout, etc.

I mean relatively easy to obtain in that I've tried all of the ones on the Zymurgy top 50, and I don't do any trading.

Those are two you can get relatively easy through a trade. It won't cost you some rare, hard to find beer. I've traded for both and usually just sending a 4 pack of Ghost, Envie, etc.

Pray tell, how did you get ahold of The Alchemist (and how old was it)?

More importantly, how did he get a hold of Russian River Pliny the Younger?

That's the only one on the list I've never had.

I've checked into it 7 times on untappd... the first time I tried it was at a beer share, but I've had several friends that travel in that area bring some back since. I also was at a conference in Boston and had someone give me a few cans one time.

The last time I checked in was last year's jamboree.

I don't remember the canning dates vs. the dates I've drank it.

And I lied, I overlooked Pliny The Younger... never tried that one.
