re: Brees expecting 28-32M/yr, really?

I am not to worried about the cap hit. Expect a 3 year deal with the third year being fake. He will have a low first year, so his total cap hit will be like 30 million (taking into account the 21 million in dead money). He plays this year, probably next year, and retires on the third year. Then you role with a cheap option like Taysom or a rookie.
I just don't think Brees is worth it anymore. I know they will sign him, but for frick sakes, I wish he would recognize his severely limited arm strength and take a 20 million a year contract so we can afford another fricking receiver.

That's naive and wishful/emotional thinking.
Numbers say otherwise.
We can open up 25mil in cap space with losing only 1 meaningful player (kiko) and that's because he has a torn acl. Pointless to keep him for 8mil.
With that 25mil, you can sign your qb, your gadget qb, and starting ss with room to spare.
It's not the nba, nfl numbers are substantially easier to deal with

Time to let Brees go, he took pictures and spoke with the President last night

Time to move on if that's how much he wants.

This thread is legitimately painful to read..
I underestimated the amount of Collin Cowherds on this board, overreacting to one loss.
3/4 of 2018, Drew was in the MVP conversation.
This year Brees played lights out after a significant injury on his throwing hand. 3 straight division titles. 26-6 the last two years with an nfc championship appearance.
For his performance the past two seasons, he has been underpaid... he could be making 35 million like Russell Wilson or Goff or whoever.
Brees’ most recent contract is more than fair. If his next one is similar, it will be more than fair as well.
Look. I get it. Saints are spread thin, and there are tough decisions to be made. But there’s literally no other situation in the NFL were a QB worth a shite is making less than 25 million a year unless he’s on a rookie deal.

Brees has earned the right to get whatever he wants until he decides to hang it up.
100% disagree.
Brees needed this team as much as this team needed him.
He goes to Miami, and he doesn't see near the success.
No way in hell I'd pay him $32 million per year.

Jesus Christ. He was on pace to statistically one of his best seasons of his career
He was on pace to throw for 4705 yards, 43 TDs 5
INTs at 76% comp
All of those numbers would’ve been better than 2009
Yards would’ve been 3rd best in the league
TDs would’ve been the most in the league
INT% 2nd in the league
Comp % best in the league
2nd best QB rating
3rd best QBR

He’s in it just for the money.
He’d play anywhere for the right price.
He talks a good game about how New Orleans in is special to him, but he’d leave in a minute for the money.
We’ll see how much New Orleans means to him.

Numbers say otherwise.
We just went 13-3. We didn't play well in the playoffs but it is absolutely naive to assume the 1 playoff game is who we are and throw away the other 16 games.

With that 25mil, you can sign your qb
And within that $25mil, are you counting the Brees $21.3 dead money?

No way did yall see him on Monday night?
Weve got to find a way to keep Drew in white and white practice uniforms
