I listened to Mike Detellier other day, and he stated Brees is planning to make 28-32 million/yr to play next year. I love Brees and all, but that is almost what Rodgers is getting, and he not in the same stadium of Rodgers (in performance in playoffs, age, or just productivity). And we all saw Brees really not do anything in playoff game that makes me think he can get us to another super bowl. Does anyone believe he would get that kind of $? What do you think he is worth, to bring back?

He will get close to that. Saints aren’t going to chance brees going somewhere else and end his career with another team holding up a trophy.

He not going to hold the trophy anywheres, unless they have an awesome defense and running attack. And we cant pay him that kind if $, without losing players that are in their prime.

It’s the going rate for a QB. If you don’t pay him someone else will.

Players need to make as much money as they can while they can. Anything else is complete nonsense.

frick Drew Brees. He ain't worth that money. Paying that amount does nothing but keep us from winning. The guy is no longer what he used to be. Give him an team friendly ultimatum and let him chose. If he wants to bounce then so be it.

Drew can count that total against the cap if you include the 21 million in dead money

Brees has earned the right to get whatever he wants until he decides to hang it up.

I have to agree. Not that Brees isn’t still good and he’s probably the best option for the Saints. But a wildcard loss at home to a mediocre Minnesota team and scoring only 20 points (mostly thanks to kick returns and Taysom Hill) tells me this team ain’t winning anything of significance with Brees again. The offense has put a combined 43 points in the last two playoff games in the Superdome. That’s 21.5 per game. That’s not getting you to a Super Bowl.

But at this point I think it’s time to accept the post Brees era. Another one score loss on the last play of the game isn’t exactly progress.

Yes the Saints will be worse off without Brees. But they aren’t getting any better with him

I wouldn’t say that just yet. If they get him another WR or two worth a damn it wouldn’t shock me if we won 10-11 games next year

He hasn't earned shite. Saints not running a damn charity. This is a business. You don't pay top dollar for a diminished QB.

No way we should pay him this. Roll with teddy and less money. I love Brees but we aren’t winning with him taking up 30 million.

This mentality will get the franchise in trouble for years to come. Can you see belichek saying this?? Never get attached to a player

I believe it is unfair to say he isn’t worth it. The last game was like his worst playoff game ever, but he had a very good year outside of the injury.

bingo. the eye test. plenty coaches can scheme around QB's weaknesses to give them good stats. brees is going downhill with abilities. it is obvious now. unless he gives huge hometown discount MOVE ON

time for a fresh start
