Lol, what the actual frick are you talking about? Brees is ahead of Rodgers in every statistical category each of the last 3 season. That also included TD's this year, when Drew missed 5 games.

Playoff success? Again, what are you talking about? This is their first playoff appearance since 2016. Yeah, they're in the NFC championship game, as were the saints last year. Yeah, he has a superbowl from a decade ago, so does Drew Brees. Is brees older? Yes, he is older. That's the only accurate point you made.

Yea I’m actually one of the few fans of AR on this site but that remark by him was cringeworthy

1) What if the offense and defense surrounding the QB is NOT good enough to contend (and by therefore, win) a title?

Then I'd agree with either moving or offering Brees 1 year only if we didn't have a better, long term option.

I'd agree with a 3/60 type offer for Bridgewater if we truly felt the team wasn't good enough, but I do think they are.

B) Release Drew, take the 21m hit now, sign another QB to a moderate term deal (to lessen the cap blow) and 1) maintain decent depth/starters , 2) Add meaningful pieces to the team to compete. Obviously here the opportunity cost is Drew and his experience to the team.

We may disagree on the above but the opportunity IMO is you close the window for sure, whereas with Brees I still think the window is open.

False. Brees is light years ahead of Rodgers in terms of DVOA this year. PFF rating as well.

I get that everyone is emotional, but I wouldn't let 1 disastrous playoff game, that was a total team loss, cloud overall judgement.

This all day.

Brees was a top 3-4 QB in the NFL this season.

Rodgers isn't even worth that

You see a better option out there not named Brees?

You resign Brees. There is no other option unless you're ready to start over. And you don't start over with Teddy Bridgewater unless you're ready to go back to the Mediocrity/Inobscurity category. And if that's the case there are much cheaper options on the market.

Doesn't matter if you dont think he's worth it.

The question is whether another team would pay it. They would in a 1 second. That makes him "worth it".

End of discussion.

For the record, I'm ready to move on.

The window is not closed, would be wasting good years with a really talented roster.

Brees has earned the right to get whatever he wants until he decides to hang it up.

So pay him whatever he wants because of how great he was a few seasons ago? It takes everything he has to get the ball 30 yards downfield now.

That's naive and wishful/emotional thinking.

Amazing to read all the BS that fans want to spew when they get eliminated from the playoffs. You can tell how spoiled this fanbase has become. I guess that happens when most jumped on board in 2006 or later.

They get real in their feelings after a playoff loss. Hate to see it

re: Brees expecting 28-32M/yr, really?
This board has always had a weird tinge of hate towards Brees, especially in the offseason. The second a guy gets paid what he’s worth, the hate comes out the woodwork.

I honestly am not even effected by this loss. I’m kind of numb to it and don’t even care that much. After the game I went to Gianna, had a good meal, and was pretty much over it by bed time. I guess I’m getting old.

I thought so at first but now I’m really leaning towards it not being closed. We’ll have to make some changes but we can still make one last push. We have the OL when healthy and we have the DL when healthy. We just need a really really good number 2 WR and another above average to good LB. I also think we’d need to change our game back to a run heavy approach, maybe even take a RB late and see if we hit on a Chris Ivory or a Chris Carson, and start carrying 3 RBs and start pounding the frick out of team

This is why I think the window is shut. Payton will rely on Brees instead of pounding the rock when things go south for a minute. It's happened too many times.
