What do you base this on? I mean, Brees is 4 or 5 years older but otherwise, how is he 'not in the same stadium' as Rodgers?

Yall are crazy. Brees was lights out in the regular season. Get him another receiver and he will produce.

Bye Brees. We won with Teddy, it’s not as if we need Brees. His contracts (well deserved) have handcuffed the Saints cap in previous seasons. The team cannot pay an aging Qb when so many other crucial pieces are also in play.

You have money, you have restaurant franchises, and you have a home in New Orleans. This number is what young, on-going franchise Qb’s are earning. Brees needs to be a team player or go end his career like Joe Flacco.

Can we franchise tag him? What would that be, around $28M?

The price of QBs keeps going up, but it’s gotta cap out somewhere.

The ending to this season is exactly why Brees was not selected in the top 100 nfl players of all time.

Even if he had another Super Bowl win, I still doubt he would be on there. Him and Rodgers were essentially competing against Brady and Manning for the 2 “modern” spots.

What s the old saying. Better to part with a player a year early than a year too late. I’m thinking this applies to Drew right now

Nope.

Terrible contracts and bad drafting handcuffed us. Totally independent of Brees’ contract. We wasted 3 years of his prime by carrying dead money, poor drafting, bad FA acquisitions

This team will still be a top 5 roster in 2020. The contract of whoever is under center will be irrelevant in 2020

re: Brees expecting 28-32M/yr, really?
i can understand it since teddy will most likely get $30 mil from his new team so its pretty much league average to get $30 mil as a starting QB

that said i think they should pressure drew to make it a three year deal @ $5 mil a year with a $25 mil signing bonus each year hes on the roster to start the season so he only counts $5 mil on the cap each year to give them a way to go get and pay talented FAs to fix this team as well as bring in drews replacement to get him primed to take over

Then how do you explain Marino or Favre?

Right. Let’s not repeat previous mistakes.

But a wildcard loss at home to a mediocre Minnesota team and scoring only 20 points (mostly thanks to kick returns and Taysom Hill) tells me this team ain’t winning anything of significance with Brees again. The offense has put a combined 43 points in the last two playoff games in the Superdome. That’s 21.5 per game. That’s not getting you to a Super Bowl.

not disagreeing with this at all.

I think we need better help on the Oline. A new guard maybe?

Another WR?

but I'm just so sick of the defense blowing it at the end.

its not just a Dennis Allen thing either.

Greg Williams got caught with his pants down by the 49ers back in 2011 on a blitz. The postseason melt downs from our defense makes me wanna fricking puke. I have no confidence in them to close out games anymore postseason wise until they do something to change my mind.

i think Brees will be back and it would be nice if it wasn't large deal for cap reasons but I think it will be cause thats what its been like before.

Can't blame Brees for dead cap or bad contracts. He's lived up to his end.

Mickey and Co have been better with not going all in with free agents which helped mitigate some of the previous mistakes.

I think we have taken pretty good care of Drew.

I'm sure the Saints will pay it. And I'm sure all the people here will be shocked for the fourth time in a row when Brees and the offense chokes in the playoffs.

They don't hand out Lombardis for regular season wins.
