He’ll never finish, he’s almost 70, he’s fat, and it’s already been almost 8 years since the last book was released, the longest gap to date.
The show is the ending.

My crackpot theory is that Bran will become the new ruler of Westeros and everyone else will just go their own way with no purpose.

I know it would be tolkien-like (Good v. Evil) if Jon kills the NK, but Arya just doesn't make sense.
Didn't she still owe The Red God one more kill?

Arya has killed so many damn people since then that I don’t think that is relevant anymore.

doing my first complete re-read of the entire series and feel stupid for missing the connection between the "lord of the crossing" game played by the young freys at Winterfell and the events leading into the Red Wedding lol.
(doing the re-read in case the fat man actually releases the next book in the not too distant future LOL....yeah right)

Stannis Baratheon in the entire first book. I may have made this exact post in this thread years ago, but that was the one thing I felt stupid missing on my first read. In ACOK, I was wondering who the hell this Stannis guy is and how weird that they just brought him up. On my reread, I realized they mentioned him about 100 times in AGOT. There were just so many names that I likely didn't realize who they were talking about much of the time.

I almost didn't even get started on ACOK during my initial read due to the incredibly long prologue chapter with Maester Cressen. That was the most boring thing I had ever read up to that point lol. I am doing my reread on Audible and was incredibly captivated by it this time around.
Another thing I completely missed on my first read was the apparent significance of the conflicting reports on where Robin Arryn would be fostered. Seems like Lysa tells Cat one thing yet others tell her something different. Might be related to Lysa being Jon's killer.
I'm sure this stuff was already discussed in the thread, but dammit if 1000 pages is too much to sift through.

I say this, but I would be first in line for another Dunk and Egg.
Same. I was hoping it’d end up being one of the TV spinoffs so that we could see that expanded. It really could be a small series unto itself. I would’ve loved to see them head North.

right, so do i lol. but the first time i read it I had no idea what the hell was going on and why it was so damned long. took a couple of tries to get through it. this was a LONG time ago. I've read ACOK 3 times now and love that chapter.

Just read an article saying GRRM is helping develop a new video game called Eldin Ring. So add that to the list of other things he's working on now instead of WoW.

GRRM trying to write these books mirrors my work ethic to a T. If there is shite that I know I'll struggle with, I always put it off and do other crap that is clearly not as important.

The real crackpot theory should be who compiles his manuscripts and finishes WoW and ADoS once he dies?

I was pretty sure he's not allowing anyone the rights to finish the story should he die before he finishes it. A Song of Ice and Fire dies with him.
