yeah but some of the things he pointed out are really interesting. sure, it could be just speculation and wishful thinking, but it did catch my ear a bit

Best case scenario, say he finishes the book tomorrow, surely it takes a year to get his final draft to print.

That would be perfect for me so I can read the previous books which I have yet to do because I don’t like to be left hanging

I don’t think that GRRMs manuscript to final print takes a bunch of editing, I’ve heard his rough writing is damn near perfect

I started reading the books right around the time ADWD released, which I think also coincided with the show starting up.
I figured that was a good time to get into them, because by the time I finally finished all 5 books, it would probably be around the time that book 6 was released.
Silly sweet summer child was I.

I was the same way. I remember thinking how great it was that I just finished Feast when Dance came out. I assumed I would have a bit of a wait before Winds, but it wouldn't be too bad. I still don't regret it, though.

Same boat as both of yall. Think I finished feast a month or so before dance came out. Then crickets. Will be forever grateful the fat man got me into fantasy but damn.

I think we get winds by end of 2025 personally

Anyway… I will be in Glasgow, attending the con, but whether you’ll see me, I don’t know. I am not on any programming. It is not for lack of trying, though. I wrote the con’s programming chair back in January, and again in February, asking for his phone number so we could discuss the details. No phone number was forthcoming, alas, just a form letter with a link to an application and a warning that while I was welcome to apply, I could not be guaranteed a place on the programme.
If he'd finish the fricking book, something tells me he wouldn't have to beg to get onto panels at these things. Just a hunch.
No one wants to hear you talk about a bunch of random bullshite...all they want is info on the new material which is now 14 years in waiting.

Let me say a few words about that, though. Last year, when I mentioned seeing my Voyager editor in London, the internet went nuts, throwing up all sorts of theories about how this meant that WINDS OF WINTER was done and a huge announcement was at hand. Uhhhh… sorry guys, but no. That’s not how it works. Making contacts… which often turn into friendships… is a huge part of publishing. Most of my communication with my editors and publishers is conducted via emails, phone calls, zooms, and texts (in the old days, we had letters written on paper too). There’s not a lot of face to face, especially when we’re talking about people who live across an ocean… so when I travel, if I have a day or two to catch up with one of my editors or agents, I jump on it. Every time I travel to NYC, I get together with my literary agents, and my editors at Bantam and Tor.. along with old friends, family, and the like. That’s true everywhere I go. If I fly to Germany for a con or book fair, I will see my German agents, publishers, and translators. If it’s Italy or Spain or Finland, same thing. If I ever find myself in Brazil or Japan or Egypt, I’d try and connect with my Brazilian or Japanese or Egyptian publishers. This is just the standard way of doing business, guys. It does NOT signify that some momentous announcement is at hand. It doesn’t signify anything, actually… except a desire to touch base, catch up, renew old contacts or make some new ones… and enjoy a nice meal. So calm down, please. When WINDS OF WINTER is done, the word will not trickle out, there WILL be a big announcement… where and when I cannot say.
But back to our road trip…
So he just says a ton of words about WoW not being done and then thinks everyone is excited to hear about his vacation. This dude is out of his mind. Seriously. I'm to the point now where I don't think he'll ever finish WoW, much less ADoS.
I can't stand this dude

Only if he de ides to let someone else write it.

Yea, I've always held out some hope he'd at least finish #6. Too rich, lazy, fat, and old to ever finish #7. But he's been halfway done with WoW for ages now so it's like he's just completely given up.

He's already said the story is dying with him when he dies. Nobody else is finishing it.

This was basically the case once the TV series ended and everyone thought the ending was complete garbage. When he came out of the Covid lockdowns without having it finished it pretty much sealed the deal he had no intention of finishing the series.

Exactly… guy has become delusional and has lost the plot. Can’t believe I got my hopes up
