How could he leverage something he was never going to get?

I figured most ULL fans didn't even know who Napier was based on the attendance at cajun games. Is it softball season yet?

It was very clear some of their fans wanted LSU to hire Napier so it would validate ULL's worth.

All of this. They wanted to be able to say "y'all had to take our guy to win big again"

It blows my daughter's mind that we support and cheer for ULL with no reservations. My daughter says... "We are the La rival for LSU". My response... "No, you are not".
next time let her know ULM has passed them in points scored in Tiger Stadium and is the new in state rival.

LSU&A&MC fans mad that they got played

ULL doesn’t like to be called ULL. They’ve been actively trying to be known as either UL or Louisana. The technical full name of LSU is Louisiana State University & Agricultural & Mechanical College. I think the above was just a sad attempt at “giving us a taste of our own medicine.”

That being said, most LSU alumni don’t even realize we’re an a&m school. So it’s a lame attempt on multiple levels

While I do know some ULL people that are full on anti LSU, I don't think it's a majority of their fans

I think that perception started with the ill-informed shite piece back in 2005/2006 about LSU renovating the tiger habitat (through private donations) that was framed as using state funds while the Katrina rebuild was just getting started. May have been titled "10 things I hate about LSU"

I honestly think many ULL fans wanted to see their coach continue to have success at another spot they are also fans of so it'll be easy for them to continue to root for him. Not as easy when he goes to a rival of big bro

But no... Napier wasn't using Jordy Culottas show as leverage. It's kind of laughable to think that

there's no way that they thought Billy Napier would actually still be their coach in 2022 right

No lol it's even more insane than that.

They're not mad that they lost their coach. They're mad that LSU didn't want him.

They have legitimately convinced themselves that LSU desperately wanted napier but he "played us" as leverage to get a bigger deal out of florida, because LSU is such a bad program. They have similarly convinced themselves that Brian Kelly was desperately calling Florida's AD trying to get an offer, but that Florida turned him down in favor of Napier.

You might think to yourself "there is no possible way anyone could be that delusional". I wish that was the case.

Historically, tulane (officially, The Tulane University of Louisiana) is LSU's in state rival, especially as on of the founding members of the SEC

But then they had to start sucking at everything

It is true that for some weird reason ull wanted Napier at LSU. To the point of saying Walker Howard was leaving with Napier that Bech would transfer with him and more. It was really some of the craziest stuff and was repeated enough that I was very glad to see that Walker Howard was happy with Brian Kelly being hired. Wish ULM would join ULL and use the Louisiana only name on jerseys etcl just to muddy the water.

This is stupid. I'm a Cajuns fan. I had my doubts that Napier was ready for LSU based on his gameday coaching.

I think LSU hit a homerun. Happy Napier got a big gig. Happy LSU got a great coach and hope UL gets a great replacement.

Not all Cajuns fans hate LSU.

LSU didn’t give Napier the time of day, yet he leveraged LSU into more money and control at Florida. Ok couyon.

You can't think this didn't happen? Of course he did, or his agent did at least. WHy wouldn't he, it's always about perception in these sort of negotiations.

Why some idiot on the internet are in a twist about LSU is a whole other matter.

While that’s certainly true in some cases, I think it’s more that they feel LSU gets all the state attention to the detriment of other state schools. I have to admit if I was a fan of another state school and I had LSU shoved down my throat all the time I would probably get pretty tired of it as well.

The real problem is that they’re averaging 18,000+ fans to support in 11 win team with an enrollment of 19,000 and in a city the size of a Lafayette.I don’t think they can blame that on LSU.

For perspective of where I am coming from, I live in Lafayette, I started at LSU but graduated from USL. My first year at LSU ruined USL football for me.

Almost all the ULL Grads I know are also LSU fans. I am happy that Napier did a good job for ULL. I, like most, expected he would be gone after this season. Would have liked him not in the SEC unless it was LSU. But he would have been a very risky hire.

I know absolutely no one who believes any of the stuff you are saying.
