This baffles me. Its a beautiful airport and I will admit things are better since it first opened, but there are major design flaws that cause congestion in foot traffic and reduce efficiency. Maybe its just my engineer mindset, but these sorts of issues should not occur in a brand new airport.
The path to and from the parking garage should not cross the street where people are dropped off by vehicles. Theres no point for those paths to cross. Most large airports, including the old terminal, have the path from the parking garage to the terminal on a different level than the street entrance/exit level. Even the Baton Rouge airport has this. Currently, vehicles have to yield to pedestrians walking to and from the parking garage. I've seen traffic build up at the airport entrance as vehicles are waiting for pedestrians to cross. This inefficiency also increases the chance of someone being struck by a car which I'm sure the injury attorneys love.
Another foot traffic issue is between the TSA checkpoint and the terminal. The path becomes narrow in front of the stores and that also happens to be the same place where people leaving the airport cross paths with those headed to their gate. If they would remove that damn Starbucks there would be more space, but the path design there is still ridiculous.
Airport designs took these things into consideration 50 years ago, I'm not sure why the new MSY put little emphasis on reducing these inefficiencies.
Very well said. I also find the check-in area to be a huge clusterfrick.

Shout out to Mitch Landrieu's cousins and relatives for laying that foundation for that airport with "competitive bids".

Do they fill out the questionnaires when they arrive, or when they leave?

I was grateful I finally got to try some of Leah Chase’s food without having to go to an unpleasant part of town

It’s not even in the top 5 of airports I’ve been to this month. Some parts good, important parts, such as access from interstate/hwy blow.
Some parts of terminal are far to narrow and crowded, esp for a new airport.

It is exceptionally well designed and it operates very efficiently. Basically, it was a total shock to me that they could get so many things right in New Orleans. But they did.

I don't think MSY should be included amongst "large" airports.

It is not even close. There are some very nice airports in this Country, and the luggage issues and traffic isaues in NOLA are outrageous... I would not even rank it in the top 10.

“I am excited to celebrate the success of the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and its top ranking as number one in customer satisfaction among large airports across North America,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “Reconstructing the new MSY terminal as a state-of-the-art facility was a priority of my administration, and we are thrilled about this recognition for providing top-notch customer service amenities like restaurant and retail options and in expanding the number of airline carriers, which ultimately set the tone for our visitors’ stay.
