What ever happened to the threat of acid rain?

I remember in the 80’s acid rain was going to be the end of the world. If so, why the hell do I have to add acid to my pool after heavy rains to get the pH back down?

I know, subtle I have a pool brag.

Got absorbed by our jeans in the 80s.

Then a few years ago it got neutralized by all the basic bitches.

The reductions in sulfur and lead emissions helped to neutralize the threat of acid rain to most humans and animals. However, it still has a noticeable effect on plant life (especially surrounding coal power plants and in places like China and India with poor pollution controls), and it still has a very noticeable impact on concrete, stone, and marble architecture.

So, acid rain is still a thing, but thanks to decent environmental protection policies, it’s threat was mostly neutralized.

i hope you aren't implying there are new manufactured climate crises every decade, and that none of them have ever come to fruition.

the same people here in the OT that laugh off the stupidity of the mayan calendar predicting the end of the world in XX days will still take this decade's global warming climate farce very, very seriously.

It was actually "solved" with pollution controls.

Climate change acolytes point to this as proof of man's impact, but acid rain was an isolated and limited ENVIRONMENTAL issue and there are plenty of instances where those occur because of human activity (Love Canal, Chernobyl, etc.). Not the same as altering the global climate.

Because your pool is a shithole?

Normal rain is acidic with a pH of just under 6.

The environmental policies reducing atmospheric sulfur are actually causing farmers to ADD sulfur to soil when they previously didn’t need to.

This. I haven't heard about this since the 90's. The science must be settled.

Remember the picture of the statue in lower grade science books of the 80s/early 90s where the acid rain had supposedly burned the nose off?
