In a report on The Wall Street Journal about the fallout of Johansson's legal filing, the outlet claims that the uncertainty the lawsuit has created has caused filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo to think twice about returning for a new Marvel movie.

The pair have frequently spoken hypothetically about returning for projects, films like an adaptation of Secret Wars and re-casting Wolverine in the MCU have been their benchmarks for coming back, but according to this report they may not want to if their bottom line is being threatened.

The Wall Street Journal wrote that since the lawsuit has been filed that the pair "hit an impasse in negotiations to direct another Marvel movie" and that the discord between talent and the studio "left them unsure how their next movie would be distributed and how they would be paid." The Russo declined to comment for the initial report.

Disney allowing this lawsuit to go public still blows my mind, especially in this era.

It's impossible for studios to keep this sort of thing under wraps anymore. The world of social media ensures that this stuff will get out. Even if Disney could have kept Johansson from going public, some legal clerk or someone else would leak it for likes.

Disney has to face the facts that they are in a lose lose position now. They either pony up the cash or lose big name directors and actors.

That makes no sense. Their contracts would just include different language.

Problem still comes down to Disney declaring “I have altered the deal. Pray I do not alter it further.”

If you can’t trust Disney, it is kind of hard to get people onboard with the kinds of multi-film contracts they hold MCU actors to.

Disney knows they're a deal with the devil.

Which works better with unknown or less famous actors who will take breadcrumbs for the exposure.

How DC isn't greenlighting the hell out of a Darkseid-centric Justice League saga right now and signing over a blank check and total creative Control to Zach Snyder is simply beyond me.

They have an opportunity to give Marvel a standing 8-count right now if they came up with their version of a Thanos/Avengers 3-4 film adventure over the next 5 years. It's staring them right in the face, all while their enemy is cratering, and they haven't a clue how or the will to take advantage of it.

Because they already did that, with spectacular results.

Disney broke Scarlet’s contract and basically took a ton of money from her. That’s why they’re concerned. Also they want to appear like they favor actor’s rights in this fight so that they can still get their pick of the litter for acting talent

That’s speculation. No one knows how it would have performed in a theater only release.

Sure the earnings part is speculation. The requirement to only release in theaters is not. Still break of contracf

After all the shenanigans of what WB did to Snyder’s original film, it shouldn’t be a shock that they don’t know what to do.

I’m not saying ZS’s JL was groundbreaking, but it was so insanely better than what we got in 2017, that it should be a wake up call to WB. It won’t be, but it should.

It’s not that simple, unless you put the streaming movies behind an explicit paywall I’m addition to the subscription.

This is exactly why Disney isnt worried. Disney did not have a contract with Scarlett, Marvel did. And her contract absolutely, iron-clad demanded her go to private arbitration first against Marvel.

But she didnt sue Marvel. Because she claims they didnt break her contract. Shes out there in no mans land. And trying to force Disney to write a check. They are not. Instead they are sending signals to anyone that wants to make billion dollar movies; they will not negotiate with terrorists

I suppose that’s one way to throw money down the drain.

Nobody wants this outside of a vocal minority on the internet.

Dc would be smart to offer the Russos a blank check with total control. Marvels lineup for the near future doesn’t convince me they will recapture lightning in a bottle (not counting spiderman), like they did over the last few years.
