I live in Hattiesburg in SE Mississippi. I-59 runs through here from NOLA, so we get the evacuation traffic. Contra flow is built to come all the way to us before going back to regular flow. Traffic is bumper to bumper on the northbound side of the interstate. It’s an absolute shame Louisiana didn’t implement contraflow and use the infrastructure that is designed for THIS PURPOSE!

Destroya should have put in a mandatory evacuation yesterday for New Orleans. No contraflow plan in order.

Nah. And I'm pretty sure the state officials along with the state police would have a lot to say about if contraflow would be put in place or not.

More and more people have installed whole house generators on the natural gas system If they all come online at the same time the local distribution company may not have enough capacity to meet demand.

When our generator was installed the guy was saying the same thing.

NHC forecast remains unchanged for Hurricane Ida with a powerful category 4 storm making landfall south of Houma LA Sunday PM. Life threatening impacts begin much earlier however. Live update later this morning on my way down

VT did I pick up and put away patio furniture for nothing?? Also there was mention of “something” in a week or so this way.

I started picking up small stuff

I didn’t move any of our back patio furniture or our large table

If the 4pm advisory shifts more west, I will

We have a room booked in west Texas just in case. No plans to leave now, though

"Nothing has changed"

Meanwhile most major models have trended downward significantly. Local weather people on TV are idiots that probably were at the bottom of their class. They rely on a dumb audience that only cares about the cone plots.

Jay grymes and Barry, look no further than that example

It’s comical watching these weather people. Dude just said nothing has changed and “expect gusts of up to 100 mph at landfall” when they had been saying 140 mph yesterday. Not scoffing at 100 mph but that’s a significant difference from 140.

The latest graphic I saw was 140 coming in and 100 MPH just south of BR

just heard a second source reference Angola inmates being potentially bussed in the upcoming hours to the Thomas Assembly in Ruston.

That's not happening. Generally, parish facilities send their inmates to Hunt and Angola during these events. Under no circumstance would they evacuate maximum security offenders to Ruston.

What about St Bernard inside levee protection area? What kind of winds are we looking at? For sure we’re losing power but can we make it through this with minimal damage to homes?

For my in-laws sake, I fricking hope. They had to rebuild entirely in 05. Hope it’s only minimal damage when they come back. They’re already half way to Pensacola
