My dad is a doctor in Louisiana who is the biggest LSU fan out there, graduate from LSU and LSU New Orleans School of medicine, and is also the reason I went to LSU and also want to pursue medicine at the same school he did. I just hope it’s not in his honor because I know he would be so proud the day I get accepted there. I’ve been trying for several years.

He is currently in the hospital and was placed on a ventilator this morning. He originally only thought he was going to get the antibody infusion until he was told his blood oxygen was already too low for it. What we thought was just a precautionary stay for a few days has turned into this. He was on bipap for several days until even then he did not improve. He didn’t get the vaccine and nothing I could have said would’ve made him. I’m all for personal choice as far as that goes, but I know he never thought he would wind up in the hospital and possibly die from this virus. We need all of the prayers we can get for him. This is one of the hardest things to happen to my family, and all I will say is if you think you’re a vulnerable individual who could develop serious disease symptoms and pneumonia, do what you think you need to do to prevent yourself from getting seriously ill. I don’t want this to happen to your family, even if you don’t think it ever could. I didn’t think it could to him, either, and even if he got sick, I trusted he’d get the best care as a physician, but these hospital protocols need to be questioned.

Thank y’all for any prayers.

**UPDATE -
My dad's story is nothing short of a miracle. He ended up getting off the ventilator after 18 days. Once the physicians put the trach in his throat as opposed to the ventilator tube down his mouth, he was able to be much calmer upon being brought out of the paralytic coma. On the day he got home, I also found out I was accepted to LSU New Orleans School of Medicine. Outside of weight loss, he is his old self again and his brain was not injured during any of this. He has been granted a second chance at life, and I have no doubt that God answered our prayers. For anyone who has lost loved ones to Covid, I am very sorry. I felt like it was happening to my family, but it seemed so surreal at the time. I also felt so powerless to stop the outcome, but I need to be grateful for everything and that he has his health. I hope to one day provide the same level of compassion and comfort that the healthcare providers gave us during that time. Even though they were very busy, they took time to answer our questions and address our concerns.

Can you expound on the protocols? And might I ask how old he is?

God bless you all.

Covid patients mindlessly being put on vents when it doesn’t help. Lack of family support from visitations. Treating Covid patients like they have Ebola, etc.

Jim Bruer has a fascinating story on what happened to a good friend of his.

LINK

I fear the same thing happened to my Parain, and many other people. Care goes by the wayside because of fear, ultimately.

Dude take your shite somewhere else

At this point, when you go on a vent, your other choice is simply morphine for pain until you die within the day

It’s the last ditch effort before you die if you so choose

This is where I am with my mother. She's 70+ and takes terrible care of herself. I've told her she needs to go get the vaccine, but she won't do it. I'm certainly not going to make her.

Prayers for you and your family.

About half our intubated Covid patients end up coming off vent. Its a bad situation but not a death sentence
