We went from watching Friday night videos at 10:30 to MTV 24/7. Definitely a massive part of life in the 80s.

Was Remote Control the one from the guys basement and the craftmatic bed?

Watching this now. Couple of observations:

1) Rod Stewart twice in the first hour? Was he really that big?
2) They are REALLY proud of the fact that MTV is in STEREO.

MTV would be great "background noise" tv it it was still around like this today. I don't understand why it's not a thing.

Also: Movie/TV board

I was going to post the Martha Quinn song.

I used to be friends with Alan Hunter and his wife. Alan met the guy that founded MTV at a Mississippi in the Park picnic in Central Park, and he got the job on the spot.

It was funny watching Alan interview all the big shots in the music business. Just before he started with MTV, he was making ends meet singing Barry Manilow while his wife worked on her acting career.

I don’t remember watching MTV at all after 1988.

They started the downhill slide in the late '80s, but they still had some really good acts on "Unplugged" on into the '90s IIRC. That was about it though.

I still remember the 1st video I ever saw on MTV. I got to go hang out for a week with a cousin in the summer of 1984. He lived in the burbs and I lived in the sticks. I Was well aware of Mtv, but had never watched. Showed up at his house and Billy Idol was on singing "eyes without a face". I thought it was cool, then ZZ top came on with "Legs". After that, I was hooked.
It's ashame what Mtv is today. It hasn't been Music television for a very long time.

I never missed an episode of 120 minutes.

Best show MTV ever did.

MTV was the shite from about 1981-1996 or so then it became shite. I was part of the MTV generation. I grew up watching it throughout the 80's. I remember coming in after high school football practice(1986-89) and watching MTV. Remote Control with Ken Ober(spelling?), Colin Quinn, and Kari Wuher was good stuff. Good times.
