I think RN weekend shifts are 16 hour shifts

Lots of places have 12-hour cycles. He's volunteering for this shite and/or getting paid extra. Book it.

Typical healthcare shift schedule is 7x 12s per pay period, with 4 hours OT. Or, they have short shifts to keep from paying OT. If someone is pulling 3x 16-hour shifts in a row, it is on the professional, college-educated adult in that situation to manage 5 or 6 hours of sleep and take care of their other shite on their 4 days off.

Period. Full stop.

They are understaffed and he's probably making killer overtime. If he can't do it he needs to call off or quit...nothing legally to do really.

This might be the pussiest thread I have ever seen . Your son is an adult offer advise and move on, no need for legal action. Also typical of a union guy to want to get legal advice for a job his son signed up for.

He’s free to go get another job if he doesn’t like it. He’s not entitled to anything. First lesson to learn in life.

Your son is a grown arse adult capable of handling this on his own.

There are nursing shortages all over the place. If he isn’t happy he can easily find another nursing job that better suits his needs. There are hospitals where I live offering 5-10k signing bonuses (not just for nurses) because they are so desperate for staff.

And no….16 hour weekend shifts are NOT standard. He is volunteering for that all on his own.

He works hospice for a large hospital corporation. An RN. An aside, I worked with unions for 20+years.

What exactly do these 2 things have in common? Are you trying to flex your union cred with some kind of RN union?
