Do you prefer LSU to have a "big" kickoff game or rent-a-win to start the season?

Making it LSU specific - do you prefer to have LSU start with a primetime, big opponent or a rent-a-win?

I like watching the other schools have big kickoff games, but most of the time I like LSU to start with a rent-a-win to iron out the kinks.

I know many on this board would prefer to just have all P5 games - but I actually prefer to have the smaller schools on the schedule.

We've fared pretty well in "big" kickoff games (Oregon, TCU, UNC, etc.) but then there's years like 2016..

You have to be a masochist to like the rent a win games. Those games suck

Big game, big opponent. No time to "iron out the kinks". Gotta be prepared and bring it. Set the tone for the season instead of looking like shite against ULM.

In the past, the team seemed to focus better during the offseason when there was a big first game, The 2011 season started with Oregon and the talk all off season was how hard the team was conditioning to get ready for Oregon’s fast pace offense.

Aesthetically, yes.. But I like to pad the record. And I went to South Alabama for undergrad and that's a quick way for small schools to make a buck and build a new facility I do agree that in the grand scheme of things, it's not a good model

Depends on the season. Last year and this year, I would love to have a tune up game when trying to work in new players and coordinators

I want zero rent-a-win games. I'd like to see all OOC games be Power 5 opponents (and this would apply to all Power 5 teams across the country.

I don’t mind starting off big but this year UCLA gets a game under their belt before facing us.

Always prefer a premiere match-up! If we're going to proclaim to be a top program, then we need to be able to beat the best at any time. Additionally, always love a premiere match-up on the road to kick-off the season for a good road trip!

Can't wait for the trip to the Rose Bowl next month!!! Week long excursion to San Fran, Napa, San Luis Obispo and LA! And, kicking UCLA's butt!

A big matchup is fun whether it’s week one or two.

It’s probably better to have a tuneup game.

I like opening with a P5 opponent. The following week I like the rent a win game

Depends on the opponent's schedule... Both teams should play each other first or have a warm-up...

correct. Who in the world likes cupcake games? They're glorified scrimmages and there's no drama (except for Troy, under both Les and O).

Give me 12 real games. And yes, I realize we'd be putting ourselves behind the 8-ball if we were the only ones to schedule like that, but I hope one day all SEC teams (and really all Power 5 teams) decide to eliminate cupcakes and only schedule Power 5 teams.

I would like one easier game before a "big" kickoff.

Sometimes the rent a win can give false hope. As someone said earlier, when you open big, the pre-fall workouts are more focused. Put the rent a win on the back end when the team needs rest.

I prefer just the opposite. since we have rent a win game (scrimmages) during the season anyway, I would prefer to have one of those games in week one. It could be the difference between a title at the end of the season. I think that definitely would have been the case as LSU would not have lost to Wisconsin.
Everyone is happy football is back so an easy win where everyone gets the opportunity to play under the big lights can only be positive, and playing that game later with a potential loss because of some minor screwup in game one at an away game just isn't worth 'chancing' it.....like we did at Wisconsin. Learn from our mistakes.
