They green onions, them. The green part is tops. The white part is bottoms.

I've heard them called shallots many times, but that is not close to what a shallot is.

When I see a recipe calling them shallots, I find it confusing unless there's a reference to using the green or white parts or both.

They're called shallots in cajun French.
It doesn't make sense, as scallions have a real French word, but there's a lot of things that don't make sense in cajun French.
