New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay's comments on MSNBC have been irresponsibly taken out of context. Her argument was that Trump and many of his supporters have politicized the American flag. The attacks on her today are ill-informed and grounded in bad-faith.
For the record, her comments, word for word:
“I was on Long Island this weekend visiting a really dear friend. And I was really, really disturbed. I saw dozens and dozens of pick up trucks with expletives against Joe Biden on the back of them. Trump signs, and in some cases, just dozens of American flags, which was also just very disturbing because, essentially, the message was clear. The message was this is my country, this is not your country. I own this. And it’s not just some Democrats, apparently, but even some of my colleagues in the media seem to be invested and not acknowledging that this is as serious of a threat as it is.”
The 4th of July must be hell for her.

So in this count's opinion they don't have freedom of speech to express their opinion. Interesting. The media in the past was a big first amendment supporter. Maybe she can go see Prince Harry and his count.

Well, this is not entirely untrue...but there's a reason for that.
Last summer, I bought my first really well made American flag. Why? Because it appeared half of the country hated America, and I did not want to sit idly by while that happened, so in my own small way I wanted to show that I personally still loved my country.
So, yeah...in that way I'm sure many Americans are currently waving the flag as a "frick You" to those that now seem to hate this place. And if that's politicizing it, or making others feel unwelcome, all the better.
Also, this place make great American made flags!
