Experience traveling with a 6 month old, any advice?

We want to take our newborn to see her grandmother, who due the medical reasons cannot travel.
My wife says I'm being overly considerate. But that's because for most of my life I've thought, "keep your f****** kid at home. Don't bring that piece of s*** to the movies, why the f*** would you bring a crying baby onto a plane", etc.
I've looked into trains and even buses, and I can't justify spending three times more on a bus ticket than a plane flight, or 6 times more for a slow arse train.
I'm trying to convince the wife to drive instead, But it's across country and would take a few days each way....which may be considerate to others, is "inconsiderate to her and the baby"
Is flying with a 6-month-old, 5 hours each way, that bad? I assume that the air pressure will cause her to cry and I'll spend the entire time feeling like a piece of shite for being the inconsiderate piece of trash that says "tolerate me"
Any advice on flying with a baby. Would puddle jumping be better (short flights) as in long distance will cause her to be restless vs giving her a break every 90 mins or so.

Edibles can make it easy. The question is who eats them, ya'll or the baby?

Just bite the bullet and travel the shortest route. If they didn’t want to hear noises, frick em they should have gotten noise cancelling headphones.

Just fly with the kid. Babies cry. People can get over it. If you don't bring noise cancelling headphones on a flight it's your own fault anyway.

As someone about to have their first baby and has felt the same way, I’m checking in for this thread.

You’d rather drive for multiple days with an infant than fly for a few hours?
Edit - and you’re about find out real quick how and why parents don’t give much of a shite about bothering others with a crying kid.

Babies cry. It's what they do. If you need to fly somewhere, get on the plane and go. If someone on the plane has a problem, tell them to open the door and hop out.

I’ve done it but fly first class or buy the entire row of seats

Give them a bottle or titty or something to suck on when taking off and landing to help with their ears popping.

Do unto others...
Do you want to sit next to a stranger's screaming baby?

Travel with a 6 month old is a breeze. Just feed em to sleep during takeoff. Let them bounce in your lap when they're awake.

Whatever, Mr Nice Guy. Enjoy your week of driving sitting next to your own screaming baby.

No. Get it over with. Babies cry.
Maybe take a red eye and the baby will sleep most of the way. I’m also assuming your six month old has a day/night pattern down.

6 months old is a good time to fly.
Kids are still in regular nap range at that age, and aren't mobile enough to get into too much shite in the plane. They also fly free bc they are lap children.
Don't worry about the crying in terms of other travelers - it may not even happen, but if it does, doesn't matter too much. People are probably happy to be traveling again and won't care that your kid is crying

Get the baby some chewing gum to help ears pop during depressurization in descent.
