It's only a few hours, only completely unreasonable people would have that much of a problem with it. Most people understand that you are having a much worse time than they are.
And that cross country drive will take a lot longer with that baby.

On a flight from NOLA to LA I noticed a family in the waiting area with a few young kids. Before boarding the mom pulled out a ziplock with a bottle in it. Children's Benadryl. She dosed each kid up. They all slept great on the flight apparently, didnt hear a peep. Coincidentally we traveled from LA to NOLA a week later with the same family. That little trick saved the kids and all the passengers alot of discomfort. I was impressed with the parents forward thinking.

I'll ask the stewardess if I can do this next time. Thanks.

People generally understand when babies cry. It's the toddler throwing a tantrum to apathetic parents that sets them off.
I think this is true
Prior to kids, I can't remember a single screaming baby on a plane even when we were doing a lot of traveling. And it's not because there weren't any, it's because shite happens and most reasonable people find it forgettable.
I do recall with perfect clarity the obnoxious, loud 2-3 year old on a trip to Munich whose parents could give an absolute shite about what this demon he/she thing was up to and who I saved from having its skull crushed by the drink cart in the dark (twice).
As a new parent, I suspect if we're making an effort people will usually give you a pass.

Some people think I shouldn't bring my non verbal son to restaurants, movies, etc.
You know what, frick them, he has every right to live his life as they do, so what if doesn't fit the norms. If he is having issues we handle it, but he isn't going to be quiet 100% of the time, he has no concept of social norms. I would much rather someone like him making noise than an adult talking on the phone at a movie or standing in the walk ways/exits at a restaurant.
Oh, take your baby to see its grandmother!

Yeah. Don't.
Don't make us all suffer for your mistakes.

If someone complains about a crying baby on a plane they are an a-hole. Now parents who don't try to stop their toddler from running around and kicking seats need to be thrown out the window.

I just got back from a huge travel trip with a < 3 month old. She was the perfect baby. No crying or anything. Key is to make sure she has a pacifier or is being fed while the plane is going up and down.

Better to get it done in one flight if possible.
Have a bottle ready for take off and descent. It will pop the ears.
If they cry, people can get the frick over it.

For many reasons, we’ve always driven everywhere - but if it’s better to fly then fly
Take off and landing will be the worst - but give the baby his bottle or pacifier for that
Quick story - I was flying to NYC once and a lady was on a plane with an infant - the baby had a terribly weak cry and cried at take off - of course someone complained - the lady apologized and gave the baby his bottle - another passenger asked about the reason for their trip and it was they were in their way to Boston for a certain medical procedure or treatment that was only available there. No one complained again when the baby cried at landing.

Pay for the third seat in the row, strap them in their car seat. They'll likely sleep better.
Pay for TSA precheck (if you don't have it already), because dragging all your baby shite through security sucks arse.
Most airlines will let you board after the priority folks, take advantage of it.
Know your kid - you'll know if they're going to flip their shite or not.
Do your best to prepare for them having a bad time - but if it happens, it happens.
My kid is 6 now - she's flown a bunch of times (from 6 months old and on). The kid will be fine. The other people will get over it.

6 month old- I’d avoid that as much as possible. They can’t clear their ears from the pressure etc. unless you can provide them some benedryl etc they’ll probably won’t sleep

My kid did great flying at 6 months. Time a bottle for takeoff and landing to help pop the ears. She slept pretty much the entire time. You gotta do what you gotta do.

I don’t advise doing this, but that’s just me
BUT If you’re thinking of doing this, get the proper dosage from the doctor

What flight you looking at so I can plan around it?
Posted on 6/7/21 at 2:32 pm to Kujo
I just flew with a lady behind me and her 4-5 month old. The baby never made a peep on the 2+ hour flight.
Just make sure the baby is rested and bring bottles/cartoons.

Did an 1800 mile round trip with an 8 month old. Had to break it up into increments of 9 hours or less per day.
Easier to travel with them before they start crawling.
