I'm so glad we have you people to sort all of this out. I feel better knowing we have the Rant to pick our starting quarterback.

In April.

Seniority doesn’t mean shite.

Experience does hold some weight. That being said, though Myles has been at LSU 4 years, he only has 3 starts. They never really let him run the office in the garbage minutes he played in 2019. Myles should theoretically be way ahead of any other QB on the roster as far as mental experience goes, though I'm not sure how much that matters either as the offense has been a new flavor every year he's been here.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

Brennan can barely complete a swing pass. He has almost no touch on his throws. His one big play was off a fake spike and he gave us a throat slash.

Let’s just conveniently forget that Johnson had the longest completed pass of the game with a 50 yard bomb while being sandwiched by two defenders and threw more “pretty” passes overall

Solid take. Brennan is a better passer.

I don't even know if that is true. Brennan has a stronger arm and is not a "bad passer" by any means. But there always seems to be a lot of hesitancy and twitchiness in his delivery. Thus, mitigating the arm strength to some degree because the brief hesitancy allows defenders a split-second to recover. Plus, more often than not, if the pocket isn't clean the play breaks down.

For his part Johnson doesn't have the same arm strength, but you could argue he has the best touch and accuracy right now of any of the QBs. No other QB on the team could make the TD throw he made vs. Florida. The throw he made in the spring game on a deep crossing route was beautiful in how he laid it into the WR over two defenders. He's seems to make up for his lack of arm strength with good anticipation. Plus, while I think his running ability is vastly overrated by many on here, the fact that he has that ability at all is a VAST improvement over Brennan and Finley. If a play breaks down on 3rd and 8 Johnson can escape and pick up the first down. I don't think Brennan or Finley can. Certainly you can still win with such players. It just makes your margin of error a bit thinner.

The spring game is a time WROUGHT with overreaction. Truth be told, I don't think ANY of the QB's looked like elite players on Sat. Certainly, not up to the level of Burrow (whom all QBs will be judged against going forward, fairly or unfairly).

IMO, Brennan reminds me most of Jarrett Lee. A guy who is very capable of being a great passer...and will at times make some big time throws...but one who seems to have just a bit of hesitancy for whatever reason. Though Brennan is much more willing to take a hit than Lee who would just throw the ball up for grabs in sheer terror the moment he felt a hint of pressure.

Johnson (right now) looks like a better Danny Etling. Enough mobility, but not elite. Good arm strength, but not great. However, guys that just seem to be able to make some tough plays.

It is a bit unfair to compare the former QBs to the current ones because we don't know how good or bad Lee or Etling would have been in THIS offense compared to the often terrible pre-2019 approach. But while I don't think LSU has an elite QB right now, they do seem to have guys that can win games

He breaks down under pressure. Max, as a freshman, was showing signs of navigating the pocket better than Brennan was ever able to do.

This is anecdotal, but there’s a drill they were doing in the spring practice videos where the coaches use tackling dummies to knock a QB off their spot while they were in the pocket and forcing them to make throws under duress. Max took it like a champ and kept rolling, Myles looked uncomfortable and twitchy. If Myles doesn’t have that at this point, he’s never going to have it.

I agree.

Look at the sweet touch on the ball on his pass to Kirklin on this play. Perfectly placed:

Kirklin was well defended. That is an NFL throw.

Those who place weight on seniority simply need to look back to the 2020 season and the “seniority” we had on the coaching staff. We need the best personnel on the field, sidelines and booth, regardless of years experience.

For the life of me, not sure why Coach O tried to establish a new identify on offense and defense last year and abandon what was successful in 2019, but I digress.

Bottom line to me is is this day in age you can’t have a successful offense without a dual threat QB. Having a QB that can run, move around in the pocket, and make defenses account for them makes a massive difference. Brennan does not have that, if the pocket collapses he looks like a deer in the headlights, is his arm better yes but if he doesn’t bring anything else to the table then he isn’t helping this offense

As another poster stated if Myles isnt the starter he transfers elsewhere to play. That leaves Max, TJ, and Nuss as the QB's. That isn't the QB room Coach O wants for this season. His job is in jeopardy if this is a losing season. Another coach could be coaching the Johnson brothers in 2022.

Anyone want to see Myles possibly transfer to another SEC school for his final season?

If Lester stays off of Wade topics he usually makes solid takes.

Brennan's biggest problem is moving up in the pocket when pressured. He still wants to go east west which is not his game. I could see them start with Myles and bring Max in when Myles gets rattled but I hope they don't do that. Would screw up Myles chance to transfer and take away from what Max has done since taking over last year.
