He was always that starting with his days at Stanford. Came into the Pac12 and pissed off opposing coaches acting like he had Asbergers. People like Carroll knew early on what the world was going to find out...Harbaugh made no logical sense...as Carroll once asked Harbaugh "what's your deal?" Nobody could figure him out.

Point is, they overlooked it generally. Now nobody overlooks it, it’s considered a massive personal flaw of his and a huge hit to his resume

Not many would fall further than Woody Hayes. Punching the Clemson kid on the sideline was the final straw. Woody's famous temper finally catching up with him on gameday.

Pat Dye represents HCs who left because of NCAA probation and never returned to the ranks of coaching. Of course, the barners would help lessen the pain by making him a demigod of the plains.

If yall want to do a study on message boards having their own personalities ,go post this on the sec rant and watch coach o get mentioned by a predictable few posters. Well, more then a few.

Even though his name shouldn't be their even in an all sec version of this post.

He may deserve it one day but not now. Lol

But in the end he also became known as Pat Tie, which hurt his reputation as well.

Petrino wasn't loved though...most thought he was an obnoxious arse but as long as he was coaching your group it was okay.

He wasn't loved, but he was very, very well respected for his ability to coach up an offense.

This is hyper specific but Ray Tanner has fallen into this category.

2 National Championships.
2 Runner-Ups.
6 CWS appearances.

He was easily one of the most beloved Gamecocks of all time. But his run as AD has soured a lot of people on him fast.

With that said, if and when he finally departs his post I do think Gamecock fans will eventually be able to get back to segregating the 2 jobs and he'll be beloved again years into his retirement.

He had success at Bama under sanctions. Bama offered him a 10 year extension but he never signed it and went to replace RC

Mistakes were made
