Coaches who were respected, beloved, etc., and then became punchlines

In light of the Les Miles situation, there are other coaches whose reputations took nosedives at the end of their careers.
Joe Paterno and Mike Ditka come to mind. Who else?

Mike D’Antoni until he coached the Rockets.

Joe Paterno has to be #1.

I wouldn't call Dave Bliss "beloved," but he was considered a coach on the rise.
And then there's Pokey.

Petrino wasn't loved though...most thought he was an obnoxious arse but as long as he was coaching your group it was okay. Many people did not forget the Falcons thing he pulled

Bliss was on the way down at Baylor He had already been fired at UNM and left OU in a middle of night type thing.
Tubbs was more beloved in his worst years than Bliss ever was in his best.

How about Barry Switzer? Everyone knew he was a nutjob but that Cowboys tenure was bad at the end.

No
For the Cowboys it is Landry unfortunately. He just could not let go and Clint and crew did him a disfavor.

An off the radar pick is Charlie Spoonhour
Loved at SMS would have taken the damn army to get him our, loved at SLU, because he showed love for the community. Retires at SLU somehow goes to UNLV and tanks then his son is named interim when Charlie resigns mid season.
Justin Fuente is becoming a punch line at Tech. If they are not careful they could go back to the Bruce Smith years easily.

Jim Harbaugh is a good one. Quickly went from eccentric savior and sure-fire Super Bowl/National Champion coach at San Fran and Michigan to an abrasive a-hole that pretty much nobody in either program likes. Massively stirred shite with the Seahawks and Ohio State but seriously underperformed against both after initially being competitive.

Was he ever beloved or even respected?

He was always that starting with his days at Stanford.
Came into the Pac12 and pissed off opposing coaches acting like he had Asbergers.
People like Carroll knew early on what the world was going to find out...Harbaugh made no logical sense...as Carroll once asked Harbaugh "what's your deal?" Nobody could figure him out.
