Did anyone here actually witness the Lake Peigneur disaster?

Anybody see any of it in person?
It has to be the most bizarre manmade disaster in LA history.
A driller baw pops the top on a salt dome. It makes a vortex several hundred feet wide as it drains the whole lake sucking barges, houses, a drilling rig, and land down. Temporarily makes Louisiana's tallest waterfall and geysers twice as high as Old Faithful on her best day. Ultimately turning the lake brackish permanently which is the deepest in the state.
I am convinced the driller did it on purpose to make a better fishing hole.

Are you guys kidding? This is one of the craziest occurrences in LA history, up there with the river flowing backwards in the Great flood of 1927. History Channel has a 20 minute segment on engineering disasters interviewing the old fella pictured above. He was boating on the lake when the salt dome collapsed. 0 injuries or fatalities is the highlight of the story

My grandfather did from inside the mine. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for Boyce machinery. He just happened to be down there servicing a piece of equipment when it happened.
He said it wasn’t fun.

To experience that must have been absolutely terrifying

I worked with Brad Hanson at LGS, many years after that was filmed.
