re: This is the best time for Saban to retire. He probably won't, but here's why he should.

Maybe all time wins too? How far is he away from that?

Saban could have 12 more 12-win seasons and still be 9 wins behind Paterno. He just got into the game too late to contend for that title.

Only 2 FBS coaches ahead of Saban coached fewer than 35 seasons--Mack Brown (32) and LaVell Edwards (29). Saban is at 23.

Saban is the GOAT.

When the recruiting rules were implemented in the 70s, it was done to spread the wealth. No one would have envisioned then what Saban has done now.

I disagree with others who think Saban is bad for CFB. BLM is, but not Saban. I hope he continues coaching.

"It’s sabans world, not alabamas. I love the notion that Alabama fans think this success is because they’re Alabama. No, it’s because of Saban.

You’re not special. You got lucky he wanted to leave the NFL and Rodriguez turned you down. Sabes would be doing this at any other program with the will and resources he demands"

Now, this is a classic LSU fan, our program is as good as yours, post.

Bama won national titles way, way before Saban ever set foot on campus. A bunch of them. More bowl appearances, more bowl wins, more poll national titles than anybody in college football. That sounds ....special...to me.
I understand u don't believe football existed before 2000 but...it did. Yes, Bama benefits from Saban but Saban benefits from Bama just as much. He don't do what he's done but at maybe Ohio state, Mich, Notre dame, etc. He's turned down nfl offers and prestigious college offers to stay at Bama. Sounds like a special place to me.

U ask an lsu fan who is Oklahoma's best coach. They will say Bob stoopes. No, bud Wilkinson or Barry switzer. U ask an lsu fan who is usc best coach, oh, it was Pete Carroll, no it wasn't, it was John McKay. I've never saw a group of fans that know less about college football before 2000 than this bunch. They know, they just deny actually.

Bama was a bitch before Saban...they will be a bitch after him. Maybe not 6 in 12 years but if you're looking for 6-6 records, which u will, u be terribly disappointed.

Bama is one of the most special places in football....maybe the most special.

Sure was a forgot and laughable program before Saban got there and it could just as easy be laughable again, don't fool yourself! Y'all thought y'all never fall off after Bear but the program sure was brought back down to earth!

I will say this, Saban is great coach, probably the GOAT but he ain't doing it by himself. He knows how to play the system better than any coach in the country and that is what makes him great. Yes ALL teams cheat, but Saban and Alabama do it better than anyone and I will always have that opinion!

Every program has their down cycles, but Alabama had to repeatedly shoot itself in the foot to end up where they were between 1997-2006. It could very well happen again, but the current administration seems have things together enough to have a transition plan.

I mean he just reeled in one of the best recruiting classes of his career and won a National Title. I think he will be there for another 5-6 years barring illness or something like that.

It was mentioned how no one wants to see the same NCAA playoff teams each year.

That's true. For all its faults, this is an area where both college basketball and baseball have an edge over football. It has become virtually impossible for a team to repeat as national champions in those two sports.

Because everyone in the CFB world is fricking sick of him and Alabama.
. This. I am sick of him too but at the same time awed that he only been at Bama for 14 years and has won 6 frickin titles. That almost one every other year. Yeah- he needs to retire. And bama needs to start declining or they will bring college football down.

And you’re classic Alabama fan trolling an LSU message board due to your own insecurities and fears about the only only program who poses a serious threat to you in the future. I couldn’t name one Bama message board or website by the way. And I’ve been on this one almost 15 years. Don’t feel the need to do that.

quote:

Bama benefits from Saban but Saban benefits from Bama just as much.

And Saban benefits from Louisiana even more. His success at Bama is thanks in large part to the Louisiana recruiting channels he put in place when he was at LSU. But that can’t last forever.

Now you’re starting to lose it and sound desperate. This is also extremely untrue. What would you even base this on—what you read while lurking LSU message boards? You’ve clearly never had a conversation with an LSU fan at an LSU tailgate. You point back to days when Bama was notorious for cheating, as was Wilkinson and Switzer by the way. Live in OK and have met and talked with Switzer many times. There’s a story journalists tell here on OK sports radio about Gary Gibbs when he became the coach at OU. He wanted to take all of the OU championship banners down Bc they had all been earned unethically on the recruiting trail. But I digress and have spent way too much time on this asinine point.

The truth is Bama would be nothing in the modern era but for Saban playing LSU in the Independence bowl in 1995, seeing the talent potential in South Louisiana, and telling his agent he wants to end up there. Not Bama. Saban said last year leaving LSU was the biggest mistake of his career. Now he wins championships for Bama using the network he built while at LSU which won’t carry over to the next guy. Enjoy what remains. It won’t last forever.

Maybe I'm wrong because I haven't listened to him much since he left lsu other than random post games. But he doesn't seem like a good on air personality.

Bama should be sucking our dicks. They never hire Saban without him being at LSU. Never.
