re: This is the best time for Saban to retire. He probably won't, but here's why he should.

literally every single year. Happens to LSU once and they implode. If there is one thing saban is good at its replacing outgoing coaches. sark is probably all time great bama OC, but we have bill obrien on the way in. Flood on the way out, probably stoutland on the way in. Saban will not retire for probably another 5-10 years unless he gets some serious unexpected health condition. coaching is what makes him tick

It was more than just staff. The loss of players was unprecedented.

How many was it? Nearly 40 from last year's team with all the opt-outs?

bama lost upwards of 30 from 2018 going into 2019 to graduation, early departures to nfl, transfers, and especially injuries. new OC, new DC, etc etc etc. We won 11 games and pushed your full strength goat team to a 1 score game

He'll coach into his 80s if his health allows it.

Nah. He pushes too hard and I don’t think he’ll tolerate any slippage from himself.

My prediction is $aban leaves coaching only 1 way—feet first.

you dont follow NS or Bama I see. In a recent interview he said as long as he was contributing then he felt good about staying and coaching. It was nothing about winning natties to him with his comments. And I bet his bosses and his players are able to confirm that he is still contributing in their lives and to the university.

Urban Meyer pushes too hard, Saban has never had any problems with working himself to exhaustion/sickness.

Nick is a hard man to read. I could see him being a Bowden/Paterno and hanging around until he embarrassed himself, but I could also see him abruptly retiring while still on top. I'd like to think he'll hold himself to the same standard of excellence he requires of others, and retire as soon as it becomes obvious that he's lost his edge. I hated him for leaving LSU for a long time, but honestly the last few years he and bama both have just become an omnipresent, overexposed bore. It literally sucks the air out of the room and I think the fatigue is really setting in to the college football landscape.

I have no idea what his personal life is like but I will say when it's all said and done if he indeed doesn't spend the time with his family. He will regret it because in the end family and friends is all that truly matters in this world!

He is already the GOAT and he will be 70 by the time this season gets into it. Isn't he a smoker as well? So if that is the case he is already on borrowed time!

Well said and I think very very true!

Oh, so it was “sickness” that drove Urban Myth out of the SEC?

And here I thought it was losing to the SECW that caused him to quit.

Guy is a scumbag that dissed my alma mater & I’ll never forget it.

Frankly, his extreme level of excellence has become cyborg level boring.

Hell yes it has! Even Alabama fans want to burn the town down if they don't win every game by 50! That says it all! Honestly I don't get what is even remotely interesting about going from one season to another and one recruiting class to another. I'll take our ups and downs looking forward to each upcoming season maybe winning a Natty every so often in a heartbeat!

yeah he will. He has no desire to stop, he's only getting better, and he's super healthy and energetic. If you hear him talk about getting to coach again after not being able to sure to covid it's pretty clear he's coaching for a long time
