This sucks arse. frick espn+. And frick Sankey for not at least getting the 2:30 game moved to night time in exchange for having the entire SEC footprint subscribe to their bs platform

I’m shocked there is any negative reaction to this news. CBS broadcasts were long, overproduced messes. And Gary needed to go 10 years ago.

I just want to watch football. Not be lectured at every turn during a sporting event.

Disney will ruin us for sure.
It will be a disaster. By year 5 we will have to find out what pronouns the announcers use to describe themselves before bitching about em.

Thank God we will suck for the next decade.

Poach Nessler from CBS and put him with Tony Romo. Would instantly rival Fowler and Herbstreit as the best duo of commentators calling CFB games. Make it happen, Mickey

I really don’t like this one bit. It will be endless SJW political nonsense. The SEC will decline as a result of this. Very bad decision.

So a couple of thoughts:

1. I’m amazed at how many negative reactions there are to this news. People have been bitching about CBS for years, and the old CBS contract was grossly undervalued by today’s standards.

2. In terms of scheduling, this will be great for the SEC. You’ll still have that “game of the week” 2:30 format on national broadcast TV (ABC). But consolidating the rights under one partner gives a lot more flexibility. No more days of “one CBS prime time game per year.” Now, Disney/ABC will (I think) be able to make the decision on a true case by case basis. In other words: really good SEC teams should have more opportunities for night games now that you don’t have the first pick going to the 2:30 window automatically.

3. I’m a little skeptical of how this ESPN+ thing is going to work out. I pay for SEC Network, and right now there’s rarely (if ever) an LSU game that’s not on either CBS, ESPN/ESPN2, or SECN. If that changes, it’ll sure look like a blatant money grab by ESPN and that’s gonna piss off a lot of fans.

4. ESPN production quality, especially for SECN games, has been awful this year. Which is surprising given how crisp the production was when SECN fired up. Makes you wonder if this deal was already inked and ESPN started phoning it in.

5. It’s kind of buried in the OP, but it sounds like CBS isn’t going to walk away quietly since the current contract runs through 2023. Remains to be seen whether ESPN will fork up enough money to buy them out. I’m not certain, but I don’t think there’s a set buyout in the current contract. Meaning CBS can play hardball. I suspect you’ll see at least another year of Danielson, but we shall see.

You do realize that currently every single SEC game per week but one is on the ESPN family of networks.

How long until we get OU & Texas? It’s either us or the b10. Someone’s getting those guys. Too much money on the table for them to play in a league with 8 small name programs. Strictly talking money and fan viewership here.

Will the 2:30 game on ABC be a national broadcast or a regional one (with multiple 2:30 games on various affiliates)??

If it’s a true national window, that’s great.

If it’s a regional window, then I think we are losing something. Having the national window in CBS at 2:30’was a great sell for the conference

What the hell is everyone upset about? The production quality and flow of games on ESPN is immeasurably better than CBS. No more Danielson. Why is everyone bitching? This too shall pass.

Yep. The SEC essentially "owned" one of the big networks. Because of that, CBS put a ton of production value into the broadcast. Yes, the game were incredibly long. But that 2:30 spot had become an SEC tradition. Now, they are just one of the other conferences competing for eyes on ESPN (at least with respect to their marquee matchups)
ABC will broadcast the weekly 2:30 game along with additional marque night games on ABC. Other SEC games on ESPN, SEC Network, ESPN+ (SAME AS NOW). It seems to me this will increase the night game inventory and ABC will likely do many more double headers than CBS's one per year.

Especially when combined with the fact this should allow us to have more prime time night games which people have been melting about for years now.
