I'm looking at the following scopes and was wondering if anyone has any experience with either platform:
1. Burris Droptine 4.5-14 x 42
2. Vortex Crossfire II 4-12 x 44
3. Vortex Diamondback 4-12 x 40
Not looking to spend more than $225-$250 (not including mounts, etc), as this is very entry level and going to be used to get comfortable behind my new rifle. Other recs welcome

Don’t buy cheap optics. Always buy the best you can afford. It will make shooting and hunting much more enjoyable.

Any of those three will be fine. I have the Crossfire II and the Diamondback HP. Both have been more than adequate for my needs.

Either of the Vortex will be fine. I have no experience with the third.

More good options than you can count in that price bracket.
I'm an admitted leupold fan boy and would get a leupold.

If that's what you want to spend there are plenty of options. I wouldn't plan on being able to easily use the top end of any of those, but 4-8 should be fine.

my experience with an older Burris is that is is a good solid scope. My recent experience with those other exact two Vortex POS's made me throw the SOBs away. Crossfire (china) loses zero on recoil from anything big enough for deer. Diamondback (tiawan) is the cheapest Vortex that can handle magnum recoil. Put one on my 35 Whelen and pulled it off after one hunt in favor of an older leupold VX3 I had in the safe. Horrible eye relief, horrible optics. Anytime you move your eye off the exact center of the exit pupil, the lenses either go solid white or solid black.
I've done better recently finding awesome deals on new or slightly used Leupolds VX3s on ebay. Dont need fancy reticles, illuminated, or CDS dials. A solid $400 scope that holds zero with good lenses and light quality at dawn/dusk can turn a $500 rifle into a hunting machine for life.
BTW - if anyone wants a slightly used Crossfire & Diamondback at a good package deal - $300 for the pair.

I have a diamond back that I picked up 50% a while back and it’s ok, holds zero and clear. The problem is the eye relief and edge distortion.
I have several lower end leupold (vx2 and freedom) and for the same kind of money they are better scopes.

Burris Fullfield II is the best buy in that price range by far. Great warranty and glass thats better than the comparable Vortex and Leupold models.

Leupold Rifleman is missing from your list and should be the only cheap option considered. I like vortex but made in China is an absolute dealbreaker.

Tasco has been around for ever. I have an $85 Tasoc 3 x 9 x 50 on my 270. Awesome scope !
