Illumination in a scope is a lot like 4wd. You don't always need it but it's sure nice to have when you do. I much prefer a dimly lit center dot vs an entirely lit reticle. Leupold actually nails it with the firedot reticle. Which is amazing to me as ive had absolutely horribly luck with Leupold scopes and will never own another. Granted they repaired or replaced the 2 VX5HD's that shite the bed on me. I'll never trust another to dial reliably. A center dot thats barely illuminated is money in the right circumstances. Go with the Trijicon. Good scopes, pretty good glass, and they hold zero and dial like a scope should

What's even better is thats the same form tackle you're taught from the time you start playing the game. Fundamentals still matter even in this day of no-one wanting to actually hit AND lock up. Kid made a great play

Turtleskin gaiters and hiking boots is the way to go. I absolutely hate snake boots. Buy good gaiters and you will love them. Buy crap ones and you'll hate them. It's really that simple.

For the first time in better than 20yrs I didn't hunt opening weekend and haven't even been this year a single time. Funny thing is I really haven't even missed it. Got tired of dealing with asshats that don't know how to hunt or don't know how to be respectful of other hunters. I honestly think from here on out me and my son are just going to pick out a different state each year and do a guided hunt for a few days.

There's a lot of truth in what you're saying. Like for me you couldn't give me another CA but some have had good experiences. Im the right opposite on Bergara. Ive had great luck with their rifles but some say they've slipped. If a rifle feels good to you buy it. If it doesn't shoot like you'd like then either send it back or send it down the road. keep the shooters and let someone else deal with the ones that won't. That goes for any brand

yeah tell me bout it. I bought that tripod when my oldest girl started hunting to help her and now I’ve started using the sucker on places I can shoot over a couple 100 yards or so. It’s handier than I thought for us old folks lol

I can't really see the pro's to them. It looks like you'd still be pretty tied to straight limbless trees. At that point you might as well use a climber. I thought us duck guys were gadget and gear whores but we don't hold a light to saddle guys :lol:

About the scariest thing to encounter in the woods in the south other than a methhead is a pack of wild dogs. I have a very low tolerance for dealing with them as in I refuse to deal with a pack of wild dogs. They aren't afraid of us like yotes and bears and such

SilencerCo Omega 300 would work good. They're a little heavier than some cans but they have good sound and less than $600. Ive got a couple on rifles that they're dedicated too
