95% of the time they are more expensive than Wal Mart

DGs have positioned themselves as the WalMart of rural areas.

I live in a town with a population of 35,000. I have 10 Dollar Generals and 3 Walmarts less than 10 miles from my house.

Have you come across the "Super Dollar Generals"?

I have one very near me. They’re nothing like the basic DG. Well staffed, no unstocked product clogging up the aisles, and clean. DG actually opened this in a Walmart Marketplace that closed.

Why do you post pictures that include your dog in every one of your posts? Cute dog, but kinda weird.

Because dogs are better than people.

Yes. I got tired of waiting in line and went to sears.com to buy my ball stretcher.

They have to only have 1 person. How else can they afford to have 2,674,628,991,028 stores in a 5 miles radius. Where I live at, I can ride a bike comfortably to 4 of them.

Doesn't matter where you are from, all DG stores are understaffed, disasters, and depressing. Good prices though.

I have one near me that has a bearded, pedo looking guy who works there. If he’s not actively checking someone out, he’s outside smoking. I can’t imagine the shoplifting rate at that store.

I don't go into these very often. I only frequent high-class establishments, like the Wal-Mart in Prairieville.

But I did find myself in the one on Tiger Bend Road in St. George many years ago. The only dude working was a 21-year-old-ish white dude wearing all black whose name was Angus. Just seemed like an odd fit.

If you had lined up 100 random people and told me to pick the 1 DG worker, he would have been my last choice.

I don't consider a town with a population of 35k to be "rural" FWIW

DG prices aren't great. Much better going to Walmart

I’ll pay extra if I never have to set foot in a Wal Mart. DG’s are more convenient and the ones near me are fine. No problem with staff.

That was my point. DGs aren't all in rural areas

It's a dollar store. I imagine customer service is the first thing to be cut when considering the costs of operating a dollar store.

Actually it’s not a dollar store. Most items either cost more than say Wal Mart or the portions are less for the same price as Wal mart.

It’s a general store meant to be convenient in location so you don’t have to drive far or deal with the hassle of a big box store when you only need 2 or 3 items

It is not cheaper to shop there.

Lol no. It's so their execs can line their own pockets. Dollar stores really aren't much cheaper and in many cases (especially with food) can be slightly more expensive.

Often times the only place close in rural areas or near hunting/fishing camps.

It’s perfect for stocking the hunting cabin up with frozen pizzas, beer, and breakfast foods. If they started selling ammo behind the counter they’d make a killing in rural areas

When you figure out cost per oz/piece/whatever measurement, you tend to be right.
