It seems like there is only 1 cashier that also stocks shelves at all times and maybe just 1 additional employee lurking around.

The stores are always a disaster, with insane lines. Esp in the more urban located stores.

With all these profits, can't they just hire just 1 additional employee?!

I don't really know. I've never stepped foot inside of a Dollar General.

Can't keep prices that low if you double your personnel expenses.

I think that a decent employee could handle it
It’s the fact that they pay nothing with no benefits so they get bottom of the barrel employees

They run skeleton crews to keep costs down. Just about everything they do is to keep their costs down so they can pass those savings onto consumers.

If they made it super nice with more and higher paid employees, the goods would cost more.

It doesn't matter. A study a couple of years ago showed that all 10,000 Dollar Generals in South Louisiana will be underwater by 2050.

This is what we truly feared..... while our hospitals are fine, our dollar generals have become understaffed and overrun

DG prices aren't great. Much better going to Walmart and Target, even Walgreens for toiletries.

Often times the only place close in rural areas or near hunting/fishing camps.

The DGs in the hood are a different animal than the rural ones

Or living in a rural area. Where I hunt in Mississippi it's either a 30 minute drive to a small crappy grocery store or a 5 minute drive to a dollar general.

It’s part of the business model. Very low overhead.

DGs have positioned themselves as the WalMart of rural areas.

It has really helped my parents out. They no longer have to drive 40 minutes if they run out of ketchup.

And yeah, I went to my parents local DG the day before TG because my Mom needed a handful of things, and there was only 1 cashier the line was all the way to the back of the store.

If I wasn't running an errand for my Mom, I would have chuckled and left immediately.

$15/hr federally mandated minimum wage would kill DG in 6 months

All cheaper stores are understaffed.

Walmart, Sam's, etc.
