I change my mind when the facts on the ground change. At the time I thought he was no worse tham the other two and I stand by that position.
I was and still is a JBE hater from day one. The people sky screaming over Vitter never asked themselves what kind of Governor does JBE really want to be in office? And we're seeing the consequences of not asking that question.
Btw, I disagree with your notion about the facts available at the time.
The fine print was there for all to read. You just had to look for it and read it.
- 1.) JBE was heavily supported by all the usual suspects that keep Louisiana shitty like the Sheriff's association, teachers unions, medicaid lobby, trial lawyers, big academia and so on.
- 2.) JBE had one of the most liberal voting records ever in the Statehouse, and that was something that he never advertised and made sure discussion of that was kept to as bare a minimum as possible.
- 3.) JBE was the democrats party leader in the house of reps and that's not a position you get without being an absolutely entrenched party hack that shills the party line.
- 4.) JBE loves Huey Long and Edwin Edwards so much he has modeled his political career on theirs, the two worst and most destructive Governors in Louisiana history. He even had Edwin campaign with him.
- 5.) JBE voted for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden to be POTUS with the last one promising to ban fracking and transition away from the oil industry which would kill Louisiana. That's pretty self explanatory.

At the end of the day, Vitter should have won and was a good candidate. Which led to: Ralph and Rispone were not great candidates and it is hard to beat an incumbent. The Vitter loss is where the pooch was screwed.
That's my opinion.

On Thursday, I went to Thanksgiving which had about 12-15 people at any given time. Saturday I got together with friends to watch the LSU game then the Tyson fight.
While not an official mandate he encouraged citizens to not interact with family members / friends not in the same household
He then said his son was coming home for Thanksgiving
Today he brought up people visiting family over Thanksgiving & the potential for this being the worst surge of the pandemic

For those whose businesses are being impacted, I feel for them. I really do, to all of a sudden have something come along and have a long term impact on your source of making a living completely sucks.
Feel sorry for the landlords that cannot accept rent but still have to figure out how to pay loans
Feel sorry for their kids that won’t get a Christmas this year
Feel sorry for the elderly people wasting away in nursing homes because they cannot see their families, which is the only thing a lot of them have left
Feel sorry for the kids that are not getting the education they deserve because everything is so screwed up
But at least you can get a hair cut & go to Superior Grill

He had all of the right enemies.
The usual suspects that keep Louisiana shitty were opposed to him because he upset their apple cart and you could see that in the detailed and massive platform he had on his campaign website.
He would've been a great Governor.
In fact, I hope whichever republican that wins the Governor's race in 2023 appoints him as Commissioner of Administration as he can do a lot of good work there.

As for as raising taxes, it was coming no matter who was governor because the state was in a $2B deficit.
People were leaving the state before he came into office, but I do appreciate you being able to back up why JBE is a bad governor.
That's all I am asking when I ask people "what makes this person the worst.. or the best".
I am just curious to know if people know why they like or dislike someone..

Sentrius,
I would suggest that we come to the realization that Louisiana is hopelessly backwards. Over the past month I've gone from NY/NJ(it is open, despite Murphy trying to ruin it) down to VA/MD and just got back from Colorado. Coming back was like going to Jamaica.
Our infrastructure sucks overall. Our tax structure is not the problem. We refuse to invest in or promote education. Forget money, we do the bare minimum on the instruction end and we don't seem to care.
Governmentally we still peg the budget to the price per barrel of oil despite 30 years of knowing it is ridiculously STUPID. We have one the most generous homestead exemptions in the country and it serves NO ONE except the elected assessors. We could be a logistics hub a la Memphis with the intersection of I 10/12 and I 55 at Hammond but we don't do squat to develop it.shite, I've been waiting since college for I 49 to be finished but it doesn't happen. Tech wise there is so much that is happening around the country it will blow your mind . I met with some politicians yesterday and the stuff that I told them about made their jaws drop .A lot of it is government contract driven....even in Texas.

Without medicaid expansion and the public sector pay raise, no tax increase was necessary.
What makes Jon Bel “worst” is he shut down live music, throttled thousands of businesses, shuttered churches, and has purposefully gutted the state’s biggest private sector employers.
All of this comes with almost zero upside in exchange. Huey was a corrupt tyrant but he at least built lasting infrastructure and institutions. JBE only destroys.

Did that long ago. But leaving doesn’t solve the problem. There’s leaders among us that can get elected. Getting those people to run is the issue. I’ve had guys tell me they won’t run for certain offices because they’d win. Sad

Threads like these are similar to the “OMG this is the worst LSU football team ever” crap.
Blanco was worse than JBE. EWE was worse. Jindal’s second term was only slightly better.
People don’t understand that JBE’s “lockdowns” are based on suggestions from Trump’s White House...

JBE is actually worse than Blanco. Sad.

I promptly voted for David Vitter
Many of you would have been dissatisfied with Vitter as governor. He’s a career politician who has never run a thing, and despite their hatred for each other, he would have been very similar to another term of Jindal. All hat and no cattle.
Posted on 12/2/20 at 10:27 pm to Lebowski
Have you forgotten about Jindal already? Dude rode a wave of Katrina money into office and left it a complete mess.

You don't like Uncle Earl?

The power of the Louisiana Governor and Louisiana’s constitution - this is why I was so disappointed in Jindal. He began his first term with the power and support to rewrite that constitution and equalize power with the legislature. He could have transformed Louisiana but failed with every opportunity.

Just keep reelecting and sending the same jackasses to Washington .....
He didn’t get elected. He stole the election like many democrats have been doing for decades. BR and NOLA always report last so they know how many fake ballots they need to drop. Landrieu is the only one I’m old enough to remember when she stole it from Jenkins.
Hopefully they fckd themselves going overboard with Trump and something gets done to fix this crooked ‘election’ system in America.

If more people would have paid attention and not supported a no chance to win Rispone, another of Jindal's cronies, and got behind Abraham, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
If that doddering old fart had shown any enthusiasm and not been such a reluctant candidate, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Sorry but we had a choice between a bufoon- rispone- and a conservative Democrat who could actually put a coherent sentence together -Edwards.
It was an easy choice
