If your friend isn’t hurting his dog, let him do with his pet and money what he wants

If I brought my dog to a dog hotel he would get kicked out for attacking all the guests... guy does not like dogs, loves kids, hates dogs

There is one of those doggy daycare places a couple doors down from my office. Its amazing and sad to see how many people, (most look like they don't have much disposable income) drop their dogs off at these places every single day.

No, your buddy isn't going too far with his dog?

THIS is going too far with a dog.

quote:

it refers to a pit bull dog-“seventh grade, Lynn's dog, pit bull, Ruby, had sex with her. A few weeks later she became pregnant and he shot her.

I feel like I need to get this off my chest. When I am offshore my dog goes to the vet 2 days a week for what they actually refer to as pet therapy. The wife and kids were home so long during covid that the dog "lost his shite" when they went back to school in August. I am not a fan of this but the other 3 days a week my FIL comes to get him and "watches" him all day. This is a guy that left one of my kids at his house to go to the store when he was "watching" him one day. Said he forgot the three year old was there. If he has to go somewhere I'd prefer he's at the vet. Being with my FIL is a legitimate threat to the dogs well being.

Your buddy is humanizing his dog. My terrier will sleep all day when we are there. She’s a bitch though. Take her for a long walk one day and the next she is wiped out.

Your buddy does everything with his. You said hiking and other things. The dogs sleeps because it’s tired. Not because he’s depressed. Tell your friend to worry when his couch and window sills get gnawed on or the dog starts shitting on top of his work bag or suitcase. Or you said he’s a cop. When one of his gun belts/holsters gets destroyed then look into activities. That dog knows when the belt goes on he’s getting left. So the dog probably hates that belt, but he sleeps instead. That’s a well balanced dog.

Positives:
-His dog is very social so it will get lots of socializing.
-This will keep the dog more active during the day which means it will sleep better at night.

Negatives:
-Costly.

If he can afford it, he should go for it.

My dog isn't very social with other dogs, putting her in those settings is like torturing her so she's GREAT at staying home by herself all day.

A much easier solution here is for your buddy to just get another dog.

Not at all. We send our pup to dog daycare 3 times a week and have an on call dog walker/sitter if need be.

Although my wife does hire the sitter when we go out for more than 3hrs at night which I think I kinda ridiculous

My opinion is let him do what he wants since it's his dog.

I would ship my dogs off to doggy daycare so they could stop being house patrol and barking all day everyday at anything that moves out.

If that’s what your buddy wants to waste money on let him. It’s your friends dog not yours.

I’ll never understand this love with worrying about other people’s personal shite this board has. Always baffles me.

Man, times have changed. My dad, when we would go on vacation for a week, would tell our dog to make his own living while we were gone. He was a pure breed collie too.

Your buddy is 2 attached to the dogs. He's turned into the overbearing parent.

But instead of jacking his children with ritalin, he's going to coddle his dogs with pampering.

You need to have a talk, he's getting to the creepy dog owner area with this. He can still escape it

I'll admit we took our dog to "school" 5 days a week for a couple of years.

Dog day care places are everywhere so pretty common it seems like.

Last night he texted me to say he is going to start putting his dog in one of those pet hotels two days a week because he feels the dog is lonely and that it sleeps too much.

I assume this is like doggy day care. I brought my dog to day care every weekday for the first 8 months I had her.

Some people care about the well-being of their pets and don't want them to sit around, get fat and diseased from inactivity.
