LEAVE SNAKES ALONE..
I live in the middle of a pasture with a tree line 150 yards from the back door.
The sobs love to come up to the house and post up on the patio. I'll be damned if I'm gonna walk outside in the dark and get bit for stepping on one.
Instead... I'm going to kill every single one that's not a king snake. I'm going to kill every mouse. Every rabbit.
I'm going to create a veritable zone of death and peacefully enjoy a whiskey outside.
Now, in the woods, I'll just chuck a stick at it so it gets the hint to frick off.

How about you quit worrying about other dudes and their pants. You snake weirdos are the worst.

I appreciate your conservation, but with a 16 month old that routinely toddles in that very spot (30 yards from front door), no way that big bastard gets to hang out in the yard.
We will have to agree to disagree on this one, snake’s gotta go.

I've had one dog killed by a rattler and have killed two big ones in my yard, along with three copperheads (one of which was on my back porch under my pit).
If I can find them, they don't last long around my place.

Out of curiosity, what did he use to kill it?

I believe it's illegal to kill Canebreak rattlers

For the first time ever, a couple weeks ago I sort of had a slight understanding of the snake-killing mentality. Recently moved onto some land, and a couple weeks ago I ran across a cottonmouth laying out across one of my trails. I walk my little dog on the trails all the time. I had actually just walked him on my other trails, then put him inside and went by myself when I found the cottonmouth. If my dog was with me, he’d have found it first.
At first glance I expected it to be a water snake, but when I saw that it was a cottonmouth, for a fleeting second I thought he’d be better off dead than laying across my trail I walk my dog on. Instead, I caught him and relocated him. But if I weren’t a snake catching kind of guy, I can sort of understand the mentality of eliminating it.

Call green jeans then.
The last one I killed was literally coiled up in my drinking chair.

you were out on a trail it seems. so basically in his home. why kill it? that thing is probably a very old snake and an impressive specimen. whether you pansies who cant handle a snake like it or not, they are part of the ecosystem. if this thing was near your house, ok sure.

Did his best impression of Derek Stingley with that backpedal as soon as the snake moved.
I don't blame him one bit though.

Yea any venomous snake that is within 100 ft of my house is a goner....non-venomous gets relocated mainly so my dog doesn't kill them.

She takes in frogs, lizards, snakes, squirrels, and spiders as pets, yet got fussed at by my wife for dissecting a bird she killed on the kitchen table. She's definitely odd, no denying that.

Can confirm. A guy on our old lease shot one's head to pieces and took it to the truck and we ran into him on our way out of the lease and stopped and that thing was still wiggling and slithering around in the back.

i'm just foolin nothing wrong with the pets and cleaning an animal she killed. Maybe i just need to get over my fear of snakes, no way i'm touching it dead or alive

Friend on FB took pics of a canebrake at a golf course and let him be. A place where idiots wonder through the woods looking for a little white ball to reach down and pick up, all while oblivious to everything else. I can't see that as a good idea.

That's serial killer shite if I ever heard some.

Canebrakes are docile, they will play dead before they strike at you. They eat small prey, nothing near the size of a dog or cat. They are not protected in Louisiana but they are protected in a number of states. Habitat loss is much more of a detriment to snakes like this than people killing them near their home. I still wouldn't kill a snake just to kill a snake, but I am not crying over it either. I don't like killing things without a reason for it, and because I am scared of it is not a reason for me.
