Looks like a canebreak rattler but hard to tell. Did it have a rattle?

Yes, it had rattles and although I’m not certain, I think you are right, a canebreak.

Definitely second wind...we are are petrified of snakes, even dead ones.

For future reference Water Moccasins are 100 more times as dangerous as these nearly TAME canebreak Rattlers. And how often to you EVER HEAR about someone being bitten by a snake..let alone being killed by one in Louisiana? Never.

Moral of the Story:
Put your big boy pants on and LEAVE SNAKES ALONE..

My 11 yr daughter had a headless rattlesnake in the back seat of my truck last weekend playing with it like a baby doll. I had to put a towel across her lap so she wouldn't get blood all over my truck. Not all daughters are equal.
