No ketchup on hot dogs. Dumb. Eat it if you like it

Gumbo HAS to have okra. I think this is going away, but still a thought process out there.

I'm sure y'all will have plenty more rules than I can come up with.

I put a ketchup, mustard combo with relish

I have never put okra in my gumbo. Don't like it in there.

I'll eat the shite out of pickled okra from the jar, though.

I vacillate on the Italian rule of no cheese in ANY seafood dish.

I think it's a good general rule in most applications, but that there are still a couple of really good seafood dishes that incorporate cheese. A good crabmeat au gratin is awesome, for instance. Some sort of cheezy sauce on a nice piece of fish is an abomination, however.

No tomato product in jambalaya, ever.

I like mustard on my hot dogs, but once, just once, try ketchup and sauerkraut. It will open your eyes.

I always understood it as 'no cheese on fish', which I tend to agree with.

My least favorite food rule is the one to 'never washing mushrooms with water.' Glad that Alton Brown squashed this myth.

For the life of me I dont get the ketchup on hot dogs thing. For me a hot dog is just a base for you to put whatever the hell you want on it. I say this because for the most part you arent eating it with nothing on it because in general that isnt the best part of a hot dog. Its the toppings.

I dont think C and S gumbo needs okra at all but seafood gumbo should. I think they are different gumbos though.

I grew up eating a red, shrimp, and sausage jambalaya. Now maybe it shouldnt be called a jambalaya, but the shite was delicious.

Agreed. I didn't even know ketchup on a hotdog was controversial until I became an adult. My parents had always put it on ours.

It's probably the most commonly used condiment on dogs. This isn't a rule.

Red wine for meat
White wine for seafood

Justin Wilson once said a lady told him he shouldn’t be drinking red wine with fish.
His response was “ the fish doesn’t know what wine I’m drinking”.

Drink what you like.

Nothing wrong with coquilles St. Jacques and a little au gratin or parmesan never hurt anything, but don't get near my fish sammich with any cheese.
