It's almost impossible for a 3rd party to become relevant in the US

Great political philosophy. Terrible political movement. See, the thing is, wielding political power in our system requires coalition building and pragmatism-two things Libertarians can't or won't do. It's much more intellectually edifying to talk about Bastiat and von Mises than make sausage with Cocaine Mitch and the boys.

Registered Libertarian that voted for Johnson last time but Trump this time.

I would love to have more libertarians or libertarian leaning pubs in both chambers though.

We're not the most popular bunch during a pandemic though.

Had a decent shot in 2016, but I'm pretty sure the Allepo moment cost Johnson at least 2-3 points.

For a serious answer, no.

I've been registered with the party for 12 years. They're allergic to leadership. I get that the premise is "nobody should hold all the power" and all that shite but it kills any organization efforts. Most of the half-arse decent organizations that support LP causes splinter off and align with larger GOP groups.

I honestly think with a little leadership and some organization it could be a force. There are a ton of people calling for small government and vote GOP for whatever reason. If the LP had half the organization of the progressive wing of the left they could be a force.

You obviously don't know shite about Libertarians. We are far more right than the GOP. Us Libertarians see the GOP as classical liberals because they are.

The last time I took them seriously, I watched their national party convention on TV. It looked like it was being held in an anteroom at the Ramada. Featured speakers included such luminaries as some hairy fat naked guy, internet tycoon and bath salt enthusiast John McAfee, some OTHER fat hairy naked guy.....

Now I think they're just bearded, wife-swapping pot heads whose opinions change with the winds.

Registered Libertarian. Donate yearly. Vote for them every chance I get. Only party with a core philosophy and morally consistent stance on any issue.

Please spare me the “wasted vote” bullshite.

Imo, Libertarians will be the next major force in GOP/American politics. Right now, we're going through Trump fatigue. After he's out of the picture, there'll be a void and the neocons ain't it.

They had a chance to have serious growth in 2016 but Gary Johnson was a complete joke so that didn't happen

If they would adopt Trump's policies on the border and trade deals , I would vote for them.

I am sick of the Republican establishment.

But open borders and unfair trade deals which = globalism are deal breakers for me.

It requires individual sovereignty and personal responsibility to be viable. Something we seem incapable of moving toward. Libertarians are the ultimate live-and-let-live party. But that doesnt make enough noise in the battle of the hypocrisy between dems and republicans.

Agreed. And the guy is obviously a plant. The libertarian party has been co-opted and subverted. I tend towards the philosophy of it though. And so far as that goes, Donald Trump is the closest thing to a libertarian we are likely to ever see. He couldn't have come along at a better time either. This system needs streamlined in the worst way and that's what he's doing.

I thought Jo Jo beat Amash in their primary. Amash is currently a house rep but that won’t be for long .They need to focus on getting a candidate that can get some positive attention. Seems like all of their candidates are nuts or anti Trumpers .

I don't hate the idea but I don't think the populace is politically interested enough for something like libertarian policy to really take hold
