I have a .270 that deer hunt with a good bit. The scope on it is over 20 years old. Scope is an old Simmons 44mag (My first rifle and scope combo). The gun literally will drive tacks so im kind of scared to miss with it but I am looking at upgrading to something newer.

Price range? Anything over $100 will probably be an upgrade over a scope that old.

trying to keep it under 1000.00. I have a newer Nikon monarch with the BDC on my other rife (300 win mag) and since Nikon is out of the rifle scope market I really don't know what to get.

If that’s what you have been using you will be more than happy with a Leupold freedom in either 2-7x33 or a 3-9x40.
It’s a 200 and some change scope but will be light years ahead of what you have.

I don't know much about the $1000 price range. My best scope for the money is a Vortex Razor LH; I think they're on Amazon in the $500-$600 range. It's Razor glass (those are typically a little over $1000) but they didn't spend money on ultra-precise tracking turrets, keeping the weight and cost down. If you just set your zero and use holdovers instead of dialing in long shots, it's a helluva scope for the money.

I have a Leupold vx3i 4.5x14x50... got online black- Friday sale for $490ish last year. List for about $800..
I can't imagine ever needing anything else. Very bright/clear and lifetime warranty.

Well there's a hugeeeeeee product range in that price bracket.

My personal favorite scope is the leupold 2.5-8x36 vx3i. They can be had on sale for less than $400 and IMO are the perfect riflescope for general purpose hunting. They are very lightweight, very durable, have great glass, and the adjustments track well. I also really like a 2-7x32 scope for thicker stuff. I've grown to hate large telescopes on hunting rifles, I've found 8x to be plenty out to 500 yards which is farther than I care to try shots on deer.

Your options are nearly limitless and they all have good glass. Bring the rifle somewhere that has a good selection and try a few out. Whichever one you like the best will serve you fine.

Agree. You spend over $500 on a scope these days you’re going to get something that makes a 20 year old Simmons look like the bottom of a mayonnaise jar.

Man, I've got an old 1959 model 88 Winchester .308 with a Redfield wide angle scope, made in the 60s or 1970s. It's my favorite, most trusted rifle. I wouldn't change a thing until something goes wrong. If your eyes are getting weaker, and you need something better I understand, but if you have something that works well, why mess with it? Spend some money on a new toy, like an AR or a nice CZ magnum rimfire to play with. JMO

understand your point and not arguing just stating some points, while his current scope is functional and does very well with accuracy etc... it is older generation and well below his stated current price point, newer technology and higher price point means clarity, magnification, low light visibility etc will all be increased exponentially

but it is all toys, spend where you see fit
