quote:Yes, we'd have to make a bunch of moves to get the cap to a spot where we could afford FVV.
I just think if we did this we would already have to have a plan in place for Jrue, Lonzo, and JJ.

Like who?
WHo's going to have the cap space, and actually want to spend it?
Hawks, Knicks, Pistons, Kings, Hornets, Heat, Suns, and the Raptors are the teams that have the ability to easily sign him if they want. A few other teams could create the space easily, like us.
I think both the Heat and the Raptors are looking towards next offseason and having a max slot for Giannis. Of all those other teams, there's no way VanVleet would want to go there over us.

Not really. Depends on what FVV is expecting to grab in FA, tradeNBA.com recommended a contract in the 15 mil a season range, but it'll likely be closer to 20.
We could have Toronto do a sign and trade, something along the lines of:
Toronto: #13
NYK: Lonzo
Nets: Redick
Pels: FVV, Prince, #8, 21 Mavs 1st, 24 Nets 1st
End with a roster of (excluding any other signings):
FVV/NAW
Jrue/Hart
Ingram/Prince
Zion/Melli
Hayes
We still have #8 to go after a big in another trade (Turner), or just draft one.
Toronto gets a pick at 13 plus a huge trade exemption. Everyone wins

I hear you but that really makes no sense to me.
We're going to give up pieces and draft picks to get FVV, when in reality, we could give up 1 more(Jrue Holiday) and the other guys you listed(JJ/Zo) to other teams for assets, then become a below cap team and sign FVV.
So essentially, we'd get a shite ton more assets to go with FVV as opposed to giving up assets to get FVV.

Who will you find to take Jrue into cap space? You gave Miami as an example, however they won't have the space for that move until 2021. Same goes for JJ, to get him to any contending team we have to take back matching salary, which still keeps us in the same spot we are currently in.
And with a trade like that we aren't really giving up any assets, we are basically just getting Van Vleet as our 13th pick instead of a rookie. We then get a backup SF (likely to be sent out in a separate trade) with another future asset that's likely to come post Kyrie/KD, #8, and another future 1st for a guy we likely won't re-sign in Ball.

I’ve been thinking about the roster for the past few weeks and I just don’t think the team is going to make radical changes this season. I get the feeling that they feel this squad underachieved with injuries, coaching, and depth at certain positions. I think they’re going to address some glaring holes on the roster but as a whole, I think they’re comfortable with the roster right now.

Incarcerated Bob (MASSIVE grain of salt obvi) is reporting that Giannis told ownership he wants help and listed CP3 by name.
Just an FYI.
Also...I don’t think we do a massive roster overhaul either.

Yeah the only thing that makes me think otherwise is apparently Ball said in a quote that the reason he signed with Klutch was "its time to take control of my career"
That makes me think they've either told him they are looking at trades, or he doesn't like the contract numbers that have been discussed and he will ask out.

It could work for them, they would have to send out Bledsoe, who I would try to grab if we could. Of course if there's no better options.

If y'all don't think we make any massive roster moves then literally the only 2 things we can do is trade Lonzo and JJ.
It is the most logical thing to do here. Keep Jrue until we have a trade for him, re sign him cheap, or let him walk for cap space. Attain a few other role players and assets from Zo/ JJ and build for the future.

Yeah I was about to say I don’t think it’ll take this huge ransom. Still 34 years old making 40M+ for 2 more years. We’re probably in a better position than most with the picks and cap space and timeline.
Posted on 9/14/20 at 3:17 pm to Soggymoss
He will get more than 15 mil. A sign and trade is great but he would have to want to come here over any other team and Toronto would have to accept whatever they get for him, which are both easier said than done.

It wouldn’t make any sense for the Pelicans to trade for Paul.
It absolutely could make sense. Trade Lonzo and whatever else needed.
Starters:
Paul
Jrue
Ingram
Zion
Figure out C.
That’s a feisty team on paper.

We would only be in better position than most with picks, cap space, and timeline IF we got CP3 and unloaded Jrue, JJ, and Lonzo. No other outcome there saves us cap space or time line.
Someone said CP3 will have a great leadership impact on this team. I agree but so would many other veteran PGs. Obviously not to the same level but that level may be too much. I don't want CP3 to come "help or teach" BI/ Zion to lead while he would be the one taking control. What if BI and Zion take a backseat to his leadership and then he leaves in 2 years? Now we are in the same position hoping Zion and BI take the lead and would have 40 million less in future players/ asset to grow with them over the next few years.
I'd just rather a solid vet PG and suround BI and Zion with good up and coming players and let them learn to lead.

Feisty team on paper with 0 role players, 0 cap space, 0 centers, and limted future assets considering Jrue, JJ, and CP3 walk.
Also good luck trading Lonzo and 3-4 1st for 2 years of CP3.

Well obviously he would have to want to come here. And Toronto would likely do a sign and trade simply for a trade exception, otherwise they would be losing him for nothing at all.

Ball for #8 and future 1st
Redick for Prince and future 1st
FVV in a S&T for #13 and a huge trade exemption.
Why wouldn't Toronto do it? It would be that or lose VV for nothing.
Nets do it to get a shooter next to KD and Kyrie for a championship.
NYK do it, well because they're the Knicks
Redick for Prince and future 1st

Yeah, I doubt the Knicks do 2 1sts for Lonzo. I could see them giving up #8 though.
