My wife is claiming Lake Charles will be weeks without power because some dumbass on the weather channel repeated this crap. How legit is this? We talking the Prien Lake Park area.

Imagine if you owned a bar in the path. You have been shut down by Governor shite head for months... Now if this storm wipes out your place you can cash out from insurance.
Most bar owners don't own the building they are in and with Governor shut down they wouldn't get any business interruption money. They will be double screwed by covid and a hurricane.

The smell everywhere was bad.
I’ll never forget the smell in the Ninth Ward. It wasn’t rotten chicken there.

Looks like they have it taking a little bit of a westward jog before landfall now. Great news for those of us in Baton Rouge.

Dude in his house in Lake Charles riding it out on Periscope
Any of y'all ever see that Katrina video of that older dude who stayed in Chalmette during Katrina and filmed everything...that was one of the craziest videos I've ever seen. Water kept getting higher, then he went upstairs as the water was following him and as he was filming out of the window the houses in his neighborhood started flowing past his house. He kept saying, "Ain't lookin' good for the home team..." That crazy dude was the best (and so was his footage).

Ummm sooo im going to assume these planes are equipped with cross traffic system? They are almost in the same sector.

I'm worried that Lake Charles is going to be under water.

Can anyone link to a good book or video about the aircraft/pilots that fly into these hurricanes and how they safely and effectively perform their operations? I would love to learn more about the subject.

They would if they couldn’t reopen because of a hurricane

AF300 is the plane we need to be focused on as its probably gonna make the last NE Eyewall pass before landfall.
It irrationally pisses me off that they don't fly perpendicular through the eye sometimes. I'm sure there is a reason, but AF300 is about to miss the eye itself altogether.

At least a week for most places around Lake Charles.

All I really know of Lake Charles is that shitty bridge and Darrell's fwiw.

AF300 diving in now
It will always completely blows my mind that there are folks brave/insane/completely fricking nuts enough to fly airplanes into this kind of shite
I pucker up like a bitch when pilots say “there will be no drink service on this flight”

Depends. I lived near a hospital and we were on their grid and we had power in a week. It took other people 2 weeks.

It would be shocking if anyone on this board, much less anyone in this thread didn't see old chlamette baw's footage.

The power grid in SWLA got a major upgrade after Rita and due to new developments like Sasol. Prior to Rita it had been neglected for decades and parts of it were literally rotting.
There is billions in industries on the line. They will get it up quickly but by quickly I think a few weeks minimum for full restoration. Some areas are quicker than others.

Pressure —think about the drain in your tub. The more suction, faster the swirl. Swirl is the wind, lower pressure is the suction.
