I was under the impression that all commercial and government planes had to have cross traffic alert systems. But that just comes from watching every episode of Mayday and Air Crash Investigations at least 10 times.

Can someone explain the pressure to me like I’m 12? I gather that the lower the pressure the worse the storm, but why? What does 937 mb really mean

Imagine it’s like a whirlpool. The lower the middle, the faster the fall (wind)

What he said was that "at these sustained winds you have to treat this is a prolonged tornado warning, where we tell you to get to the lowest level of your home. Except in this case, you'll have to go up as the water rises." He was giving another example of why this is serious. If you're gonna quote, do it the right way.

I gave you the cliff notes

He said stay on the ground level of you home to be safe but to go up if the water starts to rise

Didn’t realize adults needed to be told that.

You must be one of those leaches that does whatever the government tells you to do.

I'm worried that Lake Charles is going to be under water.

Well yea some parts will be. LC is a series of lakes, rivers and canals everywhere. Some areas flood after a dog pisses.

I never understood the "radar can't penetrate through northern eyewall so southern eyewall looks weak" phenomenon

that's amazing that I never got that before

Easily. My brother in law works for Entergy and they told them to go home and pack for 3 weeks.

Pressure —think about the drain in your tub. The more suction, faster the swirl. Swirl is the wind, lower pressure is the suction.

Can anyone link to a good book or video about the aircraft/pilots that fly into these hurricanes and how they safely and effectively perform their operations? I would love to learn more about the subject.

I have a buddy who flies with them. He said it’s bumpy. They fly their routes and head back. Said punching thru eyewall is pretty cool

For the record I talked about that here in this thread before Dr Rick Scabb did tonight.

I watched a documentary on them on NGC one time. They captured footage of their everyday lives. Here’s one on the way to the store on a blue sky Saturday.
