It wasn’t school-sanctioned. Parents put it together.

i'm sorry reality is embarrassing for you

Reality includes respiratory viruses. They make some people sick, other people's immune systems kill them before causing sickness. This is and always has been reality.

You are wanting to sue and prosecute people who leave their home when they feel fine, because a test which detects trace amounts of a virus might turn out positive.

You're basically advocating for complete shutdown of life as we have known it, based on a virus that kills .26% of people that contract it.
That is embarrassing.

...is why THIS.

My wife was exposed a couple of months ago and had to quarantine because of a patient who walked into their office knowing she was COVID positive. People want to rely on personal responsibility, yet no one actually seems to have any.

well it certainly isnt obvious to anyone paying attention.

imagine if flu testing was encouraged this way. if the flu was blown up to be a bigger boogeyman than it is.

the number of flu positives every year would be scary as frick too.

half your office comes to work with it every year.

BE AFRAID!

if that means direct exposure? yeah
Someone went to a t-ball game last week who tested positive the week before. I was at the t-ball game along with probably 100 other people. Is that direct exposure to you? Are we all to quarantine for 14 days per your "personal responsibility" requirement?

People attach way too much importance to that "prom" crap. No doubt this mom weighed the potential downside of spreading disease (overblown thought it may be) against the possibility of missing prom, and decided that the latter possibility was so catastrophic, so earth-shattering, that it just completely eclipsed the former. And that is the thought process of a moron.

the people who always argue "personal responsibility" are legitimately making every terrible "argument" to avoid their own in this instance

It goes both ways

Maybe the possible positive should not have gone to the dance but at this point everyone knows the risks & if the kid wanted to go knowing there was a chance they could get it then they should have stayed home

The problem with this country is no one is responsible for their actions any more
Everything is always someone else’s fault

A parent cannot complain about sending their kid to a high school dance during a pandemic & blaming it on someone else if they catch it

I’m not a proponent of suing in this situation, I simply said it will lead to civil suits. You think ol’ Alexander Shunarrah isn’t trying to figure out how to make some more bank on exactly this sort of stuff?

it's kind of a big deal in the world right now. we're on the verge of a global depression because of this virus and we may have to keep dealing with it for years (i'm bearish on a vaccine being developed anytime soon)

there aren't many good solutions. it sucks.

Yes. People are dumb and governments are wildly corrupt.

According to every statistic I've seen this isn't anything to worry about unless you're elderly or very high risk.

Can you link me the statistics that prove this is worse than any flu season we've seen?

Exactly this..

It's also mind-numbing the amount of high and mighty assholes who act like they've never stepped in public while sick before.

I certainly don’t subscribe to the thought that we should all be sheltering in place and wearing hazmat suits when we must be in public, but on the other hand, we do each have a responsibility to those around us to not be negligent.

or we could just quit being pussies about the whole matter and realize that- short of sheltering in place and wearing haz mat suits- we are going to have instances where we cannot avoid exposure no matter what we do.

I don't think you are wrong. People need to be vigilant, responsible, and considerate of others. But at the same time, we cannot shield ourselves from all risk. DWI.
Either live you life with the knowledge that life itself is fatal or stay in your home and live like a shrew. forever. But who wants to do that?

i get this, too. the prom was an utterly stupid idea to begin with. the problem is the reason it's stupid is b/c of parents like the mom in question. they exponentially increase the chances of spread, which will affect people on a larger scale

i can put it another way. you want life to go more back to normal faster? we need to ensure these people are punished/shunned for fricking it up. indirectly defending these assholes is only going to prolong governmental restrictions
