My kid’s prom was this past Saturday. Unbeknownst to everyone, one of the girls that attended has a mother who was confirmed to have COVID early last week, or late the previous week. The mother is a nurse at a local hospital. Turns out that the daughter went to be tested this past Friday. So, with a COVID-positive mother at home and a pending test for herself, the girl went on to the prom Saturday. Considering the pictures on her mom’s social media acct, I’d say her mom 100% knew she went to prom. Late Monday evening, we learned that the girl’s test came back positive. Now all athletic practices and workouts have been postponed indefinitely, and apparently the Taco Bell in a neighboring town shut down yesterday because the girl’s date is one of their employees.

This is the sort of asshattery that will lead to civil suits. I certainly don’t subscribe to the thought that we should all be sheltering in place and wearing hazmat suits when we must be in public, but on the other hand, we do each have a responsibility to those around us to not be negligent.

the lack of personal responsibilities with masks is one thing, but these selfish assholes are on another fricking level

if only there were criminal consequences for the mom's actions

Welcome to working in a school in general. I had to fight with a parent last year that sent her kid in with a verified case of Whooping Cough, even after we had sent out notices to not send your kid in if they had a confirmed case until a doctor clears them. She managed to infect half of the field hockey team.

Why? Do you sue when you get the flu or common cold?

ETA: Let be clear, this is straight from the CDC

quote:

What do your results mean?

If you test positive:

A positive test result shows you may have antibodies from an infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. However, there is a chance a positive result means that you have antibodies from an infection with a virus from the same family of viruses (called coronaviruses), such as the one that causes the common cold.

Testing more people helps identify cases. The only way that is bad is if you are running for president and want it to go away.

Please explain how it is bad for people to know if they could infect others leading to increased cases and extended restrictions?

Why? Is a positive asymptomatic case still not a case that could spread to someone who could experience symptoms?

Did she wear a mask? Cuz, if she did then it's all good. Right?

Where has anyone said a mask will 100% stop any and all transmission? There's a difference in reducing transmission and completely stopping it. Oy vey.

if the mother/daughter ignored their personal responsibility so much as to put everyone at the dance at risk, i doubt they had the personal responsibility to wear a mask during the dance

No, no one's saying that, stop pretending like anyone with half a brain is saying that. If you're positive just stay the frick home, that's what we're saying.
