Pornography: the seed of today's anarchy.

Pornography is nothing new (image from Pompei below). For those that simply aren't old enough to make the connection, I leave you with this to ponder from my own observations during my lifetime. This is sure to fall on deaf ears for those who are in the midst of hormonal hurricanes.
There have been many posts on this board about the correlation between where we are today, politically and as a society, and the breakdown of the family unit and the simultaneous suppression of Christianity. It's also my opinion that the seeds of the anarchy we see today were planted roughly about the time when pornography was institutionalized, commercialized, and normalized by the masses, and the reptilian brain that resides in all of us was exploited (Betamax/VHS, member?). I vividly remember the day when a news anchor referred to porn as an "industry". The advent of affordable, high-speed internet now brought it right to your desktop. The sociopathic porn merchants used the WWW as a compliant trojan horse and widespread distribution was in full-tilt.
When the act of procreation (and all the natural hardwiring that goes with it) was hijacked for commercial gain, that's when things started to go south. At that point, it signaled to the unprincipled masses that nothing was sacred anymore, and consequences for rogue behavior were a thing of the past (sound familiar??). Any type of deviant behavior was suddenly condoned. The degradation of a respectful society had been creeping along at a glacial pace for (20? 30?) years – imperceptible until the threat was suddenly at our doorstep.
I expect a lot of opposing views and downvotes, many of which will come from those that criticize conservative politicians for remaining silent during the recent shitshow across the country, but I think it’s time we put society (that's me and you) up on the rack for a closer look. I think the purging of porn from our personal lives and replacing that time with worthwhile endeavors (especially in regards to family and marriage) is a good start.
Southern Baptist Convention; 1986: WHEREAS, The Southern Baptist Convention has frequently expressed alarm about the consequences of pornography upon the moral, family, and social life of our nation and the dramatic rise in the availability of pornography
FYI... I'm Catholic.
Sanctimoniously yours,
TP

Actually I think it is our fall away from religion (me include). Out morals and ethics in the west were rooted in Judeo/Christianity. Once that is abandoned why do we have to follow any moral compass? Except for the consequences of going to jail in breaking laws, why have any moral and ethical compass if you have not internal register of right and wrong? And over time the politicians can change the laws on what is right and wrong. They can codify stealing from thine neighbor.

Has nothing to do with porn, and everything to do with Democrat policies via Lyndon B. Johnson's Great Society. Prior to the "great society" black household traditional nuclear families comprised of 75% of the black community. After the great society, around 20-25%. Government incentivized and encouraged the single parent household. You actually received money if you had a child out of wedlock, and the man did not reside in the same residence.

Porn is absolutely part of the decay of our society.
It’s a moral drain and an activity drain.

Love it! Good thinking!

It’s certainly one of the root causes of our civilizations decline, but not the only one

It's one more weapon they've used to tear down our society.

If you don’t like porn, why on earth would you look at it? It’s a personal decision just like any other. Teach your children to make their decisions wisely but leave the decision-making of others to them. That’s none of your business.

Many people on this board won't want to hear this, or seriously consider it, but you're right. Porn absolutely has a stranglehold on the men of our country right now.
Basically, when you look at porn, you get to have sex with women without having to do any work to become a desirable male for women. So dudes just sit in a dark room and jerk it all day, unconcerned with actually learning how to be a man.
Remember in the Lord of the Rings, the image of Gollum crouched over his ring in a dark cave? He was turning into a monster because of his inordinate lust for the ring. I think that's a pretty good analogy for what porn does to men. They turn into things less than what they were meant to be because they don't have to turn into anything more than what they are.

I think this is a symptom.
Many "problems" seem to come from a lack of a common moral code with corresponding lack of consequences, be they legal or simply social.
In short, we have a lack of shame now. Shame works, or it used to.

I wonder if abortion tracked higher with the acceptance of pornography? It's all very insidious and there's little doubt most men under age 50 have no issues with pornography until I start asking them a few questions, like these.
Would you approve of your mother being a porn actress? Your sister? How about your wife? Your daughter? If they can honestly answer yes to any of those questions it illustrates how far people/society has fallen.

The internet and the easy access to porn is the bigger problem.
25 years ago, you might get a Playboy, Hustler, etc and the occasional friend had a stash of vhs tapes.
Now, kids can click on free sites and see whatever they want, instantly.
We never would let XXX stores open in our neighborhoods, but we are just fine with it being easily accessible in our homes.
And we wonder why porn addiction is so prevalent and destroying so many homes.
But, I don't think it is the seed of anarchy, just a piece to the puzzle.

I see a bunch of angry coomers in this thread that will go to great lengths to defend porn.
