probably getting yelled at by Elian Gonzalez's security detail in Cardenas, Cuba for having too much fun across the street from his house at this bar formed out of an old spanish army outpost

A few years ago I took a week long trip to Paris, and then hopped over to London, and then to Ireland for the last four days.
In Paris I went to the Notre Dame Cathedral ... luckily I did, and then in London I walked up and down the Thames and had an awesome venison burger in Borough Market.
However, Ireland -- my soul was at peace.

While visiting Seattle I decided to take a trip around the Olympian peninsula. It was a beautiful drive. The restaurants along the sound had super fresh and tasty oysters.
I had my tent in the car and decided to camp up in the national park. As I'm driving up the mountain I pick up a hitchhiker. He informs me that since I didn't make a reservation it would be tough getting a camping spot. But no worries, he was the kitchen manager at the lodge and new the ranger at the camp.
He hooked me up with a great spot with a great view. And after he was done with his shift he brought food booze and 2 waitresses. It was all a thanks for the ride.
The night was a ton of fun and the next morning I enjoyed the beautiful views as I made my way to Astoria (where goonies and kindergarten cop was filmed)
Just a random wonderful night in the north west

Hard to pick but probably driving up California with my girlfriend. We entered around Death Valley and drove up through Sequoia, King's Canyon and Yosemite before hitting the Pacific. We're thinking of hitting all nine national parks in a loop for our honeymoon.

I think these two moments have stuck with me because neither was planned.
Driving across the Bay Bridge from Oakland to San Francisco at night and seeing the city lights. It was unexpected and a spectacular sight.
Another unexpected moment was flying into Portland Oregon on a clear day, looking out the window and seeing Mount Hood as we were on, or near, final approach. Very impressive.

Taking surfing lessons with my daughter and her cousins at Remanso beach.

It's a tough call. I've been to 32 countries and seen some amazing places. Petra and Machu Picchu, for example, both completely live up to the hype. My two trips to the Azores were incredible, and I would say that it is probably my most magical destination.
But I'm going to go with hiking the full Kalalau Trail on Kauai and camping at Kalalau Beach. It's a very difficult hike when carrying a heavy pack -- 11.5 miles and about 5000 feet of ups and downs. But there are incredible views at every turn, and I would love to do it again.

I’ve posted this a few times on here.
My grandpa Paid for me to go visit a relative up in Alaska when I graduated college. We saw several great things, but being dropped off in the town of Talkeetn fort three days to just explore and hangout was awesome.
The mountain biking and flying in a tiny plane up to and back from the base camp for the Mountain was awesome.
I was 21 years old and took a to go drink to the edge of town and watching two rivers merge with McKinley towering above in the background was amazing.

Mine is travel related to the Navy. We were finishing up a 6-month WestPac deployment and pulling into Pearl Harbor. I was in a helicopter squadron and had the opportunity to fly in with one of the birds a little early. We flew around the entire island with the door open. It was gorgeous.

Nice idea for a post
Among many was in Munich in 2014...six of our friends scheduled a meet-up in Marienplatz to take a train for a day-trip to Salzburg. Upon meeting up, one of my buddies says, "Dude, shite's about to go down at the Viktualienmarkt...horses, wagons, wooden kegs everywhere." We ditch the Salzburg plans and regroup.
Soon we learn that every 2 years, the six Munich breweries host "Brauertag" (was June 29th in 2014). Arriving at the festival setup near the barrel setup, I use my crappy German to ask a local, "Was ist das? (What's this?)...he responds, "Oh, you stand here...at 10:00 you get free bier!"
Suds flowed freely for everyone til it ran out around 13:00. I'm a planner when it comes to travel, but this was the best audible I've made. Dragged the commemorative glass steins through Switzerland, France, & England...now sitting in my cabinet.
(Honorable mention: Bumping into Rick Steves in Rothenburg ob der Tauber)

Coming over the ridge between Seneca Lake and Island Lake in the Wind River Mountains for my birthday, then running up Titcomb Basin to get a few shots before a glorious thunder/hail storm sent us sprinting all the way back to our camp about 8 miles away. There were lightning strikes about every half second all around us.

For me when I was 22, probably driving to Wisconsin through the night, catching a cubs game the next day in Chicago and traveling up to Green Bay, watching the Tigers take on WU @ Lambeau Field.

Climbed Pike's Peak two days after racing a half Ironman in Colorado.
14'ers arent the hardest thing Ive ever done but I think the totality of the week and probably going into the hike just whacked from my race, then getting off the trail and losing 2.5 hours in the morning so it made it even longer was the icing on the cake for me.

Just absorbing the absurd natural beauty on this long drive between Santa Fe and Denver through the mountains.

Dining at Osteria Francescana and getting to go back into the kitchen and then meet Chef Massimo was pretty surreal.

I had an elevator operator at the Empire State Building takes us to about the 100th Floor...just under the 102nd indoor observation deck and let us out in the Sphire. It was like being in the attic with metal grates and ply wood. It was pretty bad arse.

The most memorable for me was at Ecola State Park on the Oregon Coast. We went for the first time in November and caught a huge winter storm. The first 2 days, we didn't see the sun and it was pouring and up to 70 mph winds.
Day 3, we went to Ecola State Park. You drive through a forest like this:
The first stop is a viewpoint. As we drove down through the trees to it, the sun broke through for the first time in our trip.
Then, we got out and got the incredible view back into Cannon Beach with wind and rain still whipping, but in broad sunlight.
Stock photo of the view.
It's the most memorable travel experience I've ever had because it was like the sky opened up just to show my wife and I that incredible view.

Driving down HWY 1 and getting my first glimpse of Big Sur. All I knew was that we were going hiking in a place called Big Sur. I was enjoying San Francisco (friend was in graduate school there), but when I first saw those enormous mountains pressing against the pacific ocean, my jaw dropped.
I wasn't really an outdoors-y kind of person until then.

I've probably been to 40 countries and seen a lot of interesting things but the greatest moment had to be in July 2017.
I had been in Germany for work and was flying Business Class from Frankfurt to Abu Dhabi on Etihad.
Before I was going to board, they paged me and said there was some problem with my ticket and they need to exchange my boarding pass.
The new boarding pass said 2F.
I got to fly in First Class on Etihad for 6 hours in a 777. That was literally the most amazing 6 hours of my life.
They give you a little cabin with a door. They feed you and bring you drinks whenever you want.
The lavatory was so spacious that it had a window so you could literally look out the window at the clouds while you were using the toilet.
I say it was my greatest travel moment because - I didn't pay for it and I knew that there was no way this was ever going to happen again.
Coffee was served from a metal Arab coffee pot and the opulence of everything was literally First Class.
