I personally think Garza is going to end up moving to first. I think his bat could play at the major league level but I don’t see him as major league catcher.

His bat plays a whole lot better as a catcher than as a first baseman. He needs to catch every day and that wasn’t going to happen here.

Former catcher commit Ray Torres, who spent last season at San Jac, just signed with the Nationals as a UDFA.

Idk. He’s a big strong guy. With the right approach he could hit a lot of bombs.

Whatever position he ends up at this is true. He was blocked at catcher and 1st

I really hate to lose him though

I don’t think he has the tools to be a pro catcher. Tough spot

And im not plugged in enough to the jucos to know if there is a decent option available. Just hoping against hope we find a diamond.
Otherwise we’ll just have to hope some combo of cranford, bianco, dugas, thompson can hit.
I expect doughty to hit

You have to have good JC connections and with the scouts to find talent in JC that can help you. You can’t just count on Delgado or LSUE.

If we were not going to use him behind the plate we should have utilized him at 1st base and put Beloso as DH. Defensively Beloso does not move and I see Garza being a lot more mobile.

Cranford was starting to come alive toward the end of the shortened season. He's started off well in the summer league he's in too.

I still think Dugas has the capability, but he keeps ending up in situations where he doesn't get reps. Whether it's injuries or like last summer a poor summer league choice, he's a guy that needs to play because he's still very raw.

I don't know that Bianco is going to find it.

Thompson, Arnold, and Safford are question marks at the plate. Thompson and Safford are both high level defenders, Safford is supposed to be pretty polished with a good plate approach. We will learn a little more about Arnold this summer. He started at Shortstop in the one game he's played for his summer team this year.

No no absolutely not. You don’t replace an All-SEC caliber first baseman in his junior year for a guy who doesn’t know how to play the position. That’s crazy talk

Wasn’t Arnold thought to be a pretty good bat when he came in? Or was that just wishful thinking on my part?

Yeah, Beloso was looking much better defensively this season vs 2019, he looked a lot more comfortable and made plays he didn't in 2019.

There just wasn't a ton of info on him in general. He was committed to Oregon before their coaching change. He did okay in the Cal Summer League last year from what I remember. I think he's supposed to be a good hitter though.

Just to add more to the Dugas never being able to get enough reps, he was supposed to play for the Baton Rouge Rougarou team in the Texas League this summer. The Texas League is playing, they've even expanded to field teams in minor league parks.

But the Baton Rouge team isn't playing. They're prepping for a 2021 return. So again, Dugas needs to find another placed to play. After last year going to the Cape and playing like once a week.

Arnold’s bat is better than his glove at this point

All SEC caliber for his offense not his defense. I didn't say take him out of the line up and in reference to a guy who doesn't know how to play the position your absolutely wrong. Just because he never played it at LSU does not mean he doesn't know how to play the position. I looked him up and that's where he played for the JUCO National Team and some at his JC.

Playing 1st in a couple of tournaments and sparingly in Juco ball doesn’t mean he’s a competent 1st baseman. It’s not the super simple position people like to pretend it is.

LSU tried at him at 1st base some when his knee was still hurt and not allowing him to get into a crouch. Beloso was ahead of him then and after 2 years I doubt that’s changed any

you are wrong again. He was never given the opportunity to play first. Maineri even mentioned it in an article where he mentioned that he had changed his mind in reference to playing 1st because he did not want to risk anyone running into him while playing first and I mentioned when he played 1st that does not mean he did not play in High School that we do not know. Beloso has played 1st his whole life and he is still terrible at it defensively. If that ball is not thrown straight at him the ball will not get caught makes no attempt and will not leave the ground to jump for a ball. Go look up the NBC World Series Tournament Garza played in at 1st base and see some of the plays he made at that position, I assure you your opinion will change.

Are we watching the same person? I have sat in the Box and watch Cade make some catches where he almost had a full fledge split, and seen him jump and save a few. I'm not saying he is the best, but don't say the boy doesn't put in the effort.

You saw the same Beloso that I saw. He was definitely better in the field, and he had improved at the plate.
